She was a dark-skinned Melissa Theuriault - perhaps the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life up close - she could have won Miss Universe. She also had a master's from Harvard, etc. In other words, a potential candidate for The Perfect Woman. So he then goes to India and Singapore to introduce her to the family, and in two seconds, the relationship was off. Her skin was TOO DARK. (and my partner was a dark-skinned Indian himself ).
Plus, she had a couple "American ways" in her (thinking for herself, that kind of thing). Not good enough for a simple lower-middle-class Indian family. ROTFL.

Same stuff here, I have a friend who's been in a long relationship with this guy, but she's afraid that his family won't accept her if she tries to marry him.

White, Black, or Brown chick, the only thing that matters is it's all pink on the inside.

It's because they take football seriously in Florida.

I had the same experience in reverse. I spent time in Texas then came to Michigan. I heard more racist comments and 'those people' type comments in Michigan than I ever heard in TX. When people heard I was from Texas many would ask me to tell them a racist joke.
Now, I am no fool. I would agree that there are better odds that a lynch mob gets going in Texas over Michigan. However, as far as across the board general racism I literally could not tell you which state is worse. Northernors need to get off their high horse when it comes to this stuff.

"Damn, that sista better get a vibrator."

Honestly, for some reason part of me doesn't like seeing a white woman with a black man. This is strange, because I've never not liked a black dude for reasons other than him being a d bag.

I would say it is much more of an elitist place (rich vs. poor) than a racist place.

People in northern europe thought they were not racist as well, until the muslims and other immigrant groups moved in.
It's easy to not be a racist when the society is not exposed to new groups of different looking people.

I find it interesting that his sentiment (that only part of [him] doesn't like seeing a white woman with a black man) might have been enough to get him lynched by the Klan 50 years ago. Now he's a racist pig.
I also find it interesting how sometimes some of the harshest of terms are used to describe less than the harshest of offenses. What term do we give Klansmen to describe the degree of their racism if the one comment by The Banned User is enough to label him a racist pig?
I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, I just honestly find these types of things interesting.

I agree with your sentiment - but on the flip side - over 90% of blacks are voting for Obama. So... what does that tell ya about the way blacks think about race..? If you want to go by percentages - white people from WVA are more progessive than blacks in choosing their candidates. Then again - I don't blame blacks for rallying around a guy who might break the ultimate glass ceiling.
For the record - I'm a white guy voting for Obama - but that being said - I'm not naive about the way society works..

QFT. Nobody's a racist until they're competing for wimmin and jobs and seeing their daughter come home with one of "them". Then 98% of humanity becomes racist.

I don't know why, really and truly. I'm not saying that seeing a black guy and white girl together makes me want to go join the KKK, just that for some unknown reason it bothers me a little.

Ok, that's your opinion, I was just being honest. Maybe I should mention that I have a friend, who happens to be a diehard Kwame Kilpatrick supporter. Would that change your opinion of me? Wait, I don't care either way.

And it's really not race as it is groups that are culturally similar.
If you think white people think of Barak Obama and Fitty Cent the same way then you're clueless. Barak, despite having a dark complexion, is a Harvard snob and close as you get to "white upper crusty culture".
It's not race per se, but culture.

Not completely true. I recently met a black teenager who comes from a wealthy family and attends a top private school. He said the first time his classmates treated him different because of his race was when he started dating.

Your honesty is great...Thats just the way I feel about your statement...you have a problem with a white woman being with a black man...I see it as who cares ? As long as they are happy. Perhaps "racist pig" was extreme but thats honestly how I feel about statements like that. And the whole "well I have a friend who is a diehard black supporter" is really lame IMHO. I just wish you luck with finding out why that bothers you...
