That makes sense to me, but mentally he was probably already preparing to have a reasonably good chance to start early. I hope he is patient with this news. If he redshirts, plays behind Nichol (probably), he should be fully ready to start by his junior season.

This isn't necessarily true. When he was the offensive coordinator at Tulane, Shaun King (not a runner) put up some pretty sick passing stats.
