The only thing that sucks for Maxwell is that, if he's REALLY good and Nichol is REALLY good, KN gets to play 3 years and Maxwell only gets 2.

Nichol, Foles, and Cousins will all be Seniors in 2011.
Maxwell wasn't going to start over Foles or Cousins anyway. Adding Nichol doesn't change his situation. He will start in 2012 & 2013

Who knows? He possibly could have his RS-sophomore year but, you're probably right that the starter in 2010 will also be the starter in 2011.

Adding a great player to the team will not hurt this team. If he's the best QB, he'll play and if not he'll sit. Don't you guys want the best possible quarterback we can get in there? The only way any of the QBs will transfer is if they're not going to play. So either way the team will have the best possible QB in there. I don't see a downside to this?

Honestly, neither do I. The team will be better, overall.

Obviously, you always have to factor in character, and there is a trade off of talent vs character. Nichol has no character issue, he is just talent, why wouldnt you want him?
|
I wouldn't want him if adding him causes 2 other QBs to leave because they were sold a bill of goods. Look, if the other QB's are fine with it and stay, I say no problem, but is it right to tell kids here's the situation you have a scholarship if you want to come in and compete, then change the situation after the fact? Like I said if the other QB's are fine with it, AND KN doesn't turn out to be a malcontent, then alright. If one or more of the other QB's decides it's BS, I couldn't say I blame them, and I don't think it's a good signal to the rest of the team, or to recruits. Dantonio says such and such now, but what happens after I verbal?
Frankly, taking back the recruit who dumped you for a "better offer" after going on and on about how he always wanted to be a Spartan, then not even talking to you, then leaving his better team because he didn't like the competition, DOES make me wonder about the kid's character.

What's your problem, you don't think Dantonio has an incredibly fast start to the 09 class? Usually, MSU doesn't have more than a couple of recruits at this point.

Yeah, that's the thing. He's already lost to a supposedly lesser talent. KN was E11 & an OU person said Bradford was on the E11 watch list, but not a finalist. That's why KN went to OU, he was supposed to be the top dog and it turned out he wasn't. Seems to me the staff must not be too excited about what they're seeing from Foles and Cousins if they bringing a 3rd kid into the class.

So you don't think we should have accepted Anderson either? After all, he will be taking a starting position from one of our recruits?
If Nichol does transfer to MSU I will not question his character, in fact I will acknowledge that he has some balls. Consider that he will not be able to transfer again to a major program, yet he choses a school that already has 2 qbs in his class. Nevermind the negative attention that some of our fans have dumped on him and his family. He must really like MSU to be willing to to face not only the competition, but also some of our more hostile fanbase.

I'm not too concerned with all of the stuff from the past; however, I am concerned about potentially using 3 scholarships on quarterbacks in the same class. That's a lot to tied up in on class.

FWIW: a work colleague, who is a Cincy grad and for some reason a big Cincy football booster, told me word down there is that Brian Kelly is pushing big-time for KN to transfer there. Going as far as to say he would name him the 09' starter this year.

All I'm saying is that I can't understand what there is to get SOOOOOO excited about. I dunno, I've been sober from the Kool-Aid for quite some time now and hate getting pumped up for what ends up being a disaster of a player/season/whatever else.
Let's just wait and see. I do think he's dumb if he doesn't play in the MAC considering the fact that he wouldn't have to fight for the starting role and MAC football seems to breed top QB talent, but if he's on our side, than whatever. I don't see what all the hype is about, but I'm willing to wait and see the results if and when they produce themselves.
Go Green.

What do you know about Foles or Cousins in order to make this prediction? If both of them are in fact "good" then it would seem the starting QB position would up for grabs this fall. However, Hoyer is preordained to be the starter so that says something about the development of both of them.
