Two things. It was a very vocal 1 or 2% that torched him. Probably 90% of the fan base hardly know the name.
Also, the hate spewed toward him isn't even a fraction of what was said about our now beloved Chelios. Fans flip faster than Mitt Romney... Well, not quite that fast, but close.

They're one in the same in the eyes of recruits these days. Do you think there is even one basketball or football recruit considering MSU that doesn't check out a site like this?
(here's where you give the "if he can't take some heat from internet geeks, he's definitely not going to be able to handle the heat on the field" speech)

I honestly don't know if recruits check this board or not. Some probably do but when it comes to accepting a full ride scholarship to a major university I would like to think athletes look more at things like coaches, facilities, and depth charts rather than opinions from Spartantailgate.com.

QFT. I hated Chellli until he put on the Winged Wheel.

Of course they look at all of those things. But when they're at home at night after school, they're surfing the net seeing what is being said about them, what fans say about their teams and coaches, etc. It's their easiest and most accessible form of research. You would do the same for any job offer.

Why is everyone welcoming Nichol back? Did I miss a link? Didn't we learn from the first time around? He is NOT a Spartan UNTIL THE LETTER IS SIGNED.

There was a spartanmang report that Nichol was coming to MSU? Reported as a done deal?
What happened then?

Other tidbits that were left out of the condensed version include:
something happened to all of pipersfly posts...either banned or all deleted
posters figured out who "********" is....I think Jersey Spartan who won't have lunch with Big M. AA outed him (but he denies it)
A LOT of posters trashing each other
a new term developed "multiple mini-meltdowns"
Personally, this is what makes this thread so interesting. All the new was in the first 2 pages.

Spartan JR
I got Nichols stats off the Sooner Spring roster. I have no dubts that Mr. Nichol has his son 2' taller and 20#'s heavier than listed. He was listed at 6-2 180 as a freshman.
Nichol was one of the best HS qb's I have ever seen too. The best MI option QB I ever saw was TJ Duckett. No one wanted to tackle him in HS.
I am not going to get all yippy skippy about a player , father and HS coach who advised the young man to say one thing and do another because it has happened before and with a track history like K Nichol, I won't believe he's even interested in MSU until I see him taking snaps in his first spring game at Spartan Stadium.

you gotta be the worst schtick ever, esspecially trying to give the go green in the end. Did you ever see the kid play in High School? I doubt it, did you see him at camps and combines? Do you realize that many think he was among the top 5 prospects to ever camp at MSU? Do you realize he had double digit bcs offers before he commited to MSU in the middle of his junior year?
|
I'm proud to say that I spend enough time away from message boards to even know what a "schtick" is, but I digress...
Dude, relax. Go grab a Coke and take a walk for a few minutes. If he comes here, whatever, like everyone is saying competition is great yadda yadda yadda, but it's not like this kid is coming right from the field in Lowell ready to begin his college career with a bang. I was not saying the same things about Edwin or Lawrence, no, because they haven't had a chance to show up yet. This kid has, he made an unimpressive decision to pull his commitment without sitting down with Dantonio (call me out again about that. they only discussed parting ways, he never gave MD a chance), and played mediocre football during two games at Oklahoma. If he's so great at this level he might have better challenged Bradford for the starting role in Norman. He's one of the top 5 prospects to EVER camp at MSU? Should have made a splash big enough in Norman not to leave a quitter than, eh?
Again, if he comes here, great. Competition is good for everyone involved. I'm not shifting any closer to the edge of my seat though.
Oh and one more thing... Go Green.

Much ado about nothing.....
for now anyway. Personally, it stung when he didn't sign, but that's life. Never bothered me too much. I feel a little sorry for him. Stoops is RR part 2 in his recruiting techniques. He and his old man should have never trusted him.
**HEY SIR DENIS: EARLIER IN THIS THREAD YOU MENTIONED QB CLARK BROWN: CIRCA 1985ISH: HE WENT TO PORTAGE NORTHERN, AS DID I, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER THE CIRCUMSTANCES AROUND HIS RECRUITMENT, AS I WAS IN JR. HIGH AT THE TIME: WHAT WAS THE DEAL?

Fair enough, just a pic of him shaking hands with Dantonio in uniform will do.
