Well at least now we know why they played hard in 2006 and first half of 2007. Once everyone got their fat contract or extension (Guillen, Polanco, Pudge, Robertson, Inge, Bonderman, Granderson) they completely crapped the bed and stopped caring.

Nope...you were sitting when they showed you...it was one of those quick 1-2 seconds type shots they show.

you make a good point. in fact, last night i made a comment (going into the 6th) to some complete randoms about how this team died. the next thing we know guillen can't throw to first, renteria causes a botched catch on that foul ball, and the dbacks score 3 runs.

I can't decide which of these pictures best describes the Tiger's 3-11 performance in May.

Circus clowns?

Who knows, the circus clowns might actually do better than 3-11.

The car where the wheel fell off during the race?

3. Besides Pudge maybe, there are no emotional leaders on this team. Nobody ever gets fired up or pissed off, they just go through the motions, collect their paychecks and leave.

SOMETHING BIG needs to change sooner than later. Whether its releasing Sheffield or firing Hernandez and McClendon/Leyland. This pathetic **** should not be excusable.
Small ball . Our pitching still sucks. The Royals play small ball, somewhat, because their batters suck. Guys like Gathright, Pena, and Callaspo can only hope to drop a bunt down for a base hit.

I'm not sure that releasing Sheffield is the answer (yet). Everyone hoped releasing Jacque was the answer ... well, the Tigers are 2-8 since.

What needs to happen is the rotation step it up. Verlander, Bonderman, and Willis need to pitch like their capable of pitching and we may need to find new #4 and #5 guys.

Am I wrong? Pena sucks granted, but I would love to have a guy like Gathright on this team. There is zero team speed and it just seems like these guys don't really even care at this point about doing the little things. They hardly ever steal any bases, the defense on this team is absolutely rotten.

Basically, all this team really has is a bunch of over-paid "sluggers" who don't play the game the right way. As for Sheffield, get that old, cranky piece of **** out of here. All of his apologists really irritate me. He is so useless right now its pathetic.

the only reason Gathright is even getting a paycheck, is because he's fast. His career OPS is .638. If you'd "love to have him on the team" then yes you are very wrong.

they aren't playing good fundamental baseball, but that's got nothing to do with stolen bases or sac bunts. They aren't playing good fundamental baseball because they're giving away ABs, not playing focused, and just playing like *********s. I'm going to blame coaching for that. Sheffield probably has the best fundamentals out of anyone right now, at least he consistently gets on base and has quality ABs, even if he's struggling to get XBH. He probably needs a DL visit.
