Say you're at a dinner...
The host serves a dinner which includes a food you loathe. What do you do? Eat it anyway and bear it, or just avoid it?

I usually try to eat at least half of it, then claim to be full...or fill up on something else during the meal, like salad or sides. You can always eat something else later. To decline or say something like "No, I don't like that" is just rude.

Ask where the hell they learned to cook. And then suggest they go to ChefKosmo's Culinary School

I would probably just fill up on other things (salad, bread, sides, etc) and maybe take a little bite. If they felt the need to ask I would tell them the truth that I'm not particularly fond of the food but still willing to give it a try. It would probably be much less offensive to them if you at least try it than just telling them no. Also, I wouldn't sit and eat something I didn't like just to make them feel good.

Whenever I extend a dinner invitation, I ask my guests to let me know if there is any food they can't, don't, or won't eat.
Just claim you're allergic.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.

This used to happen to me all the time. I used to be ridiculously picky, I'm a lot better now though. Allergies work, especially if it's something like fish. Or you could say you're a vegetarian, but that won't really work if you're planning on dining with them again.
I was at my pastors house for a barbeque about a month ago, and he served hamburgers and hotdogs. I had a hamburger, but I thought it tasted gross. I ate it anyway, b/c I didn't want to be rude. Turns out the hamburger was made from bear meat (I am not a fan of wild game), and he totally tricked me into eating it. I was .

Unless you are allergic to it, you should be gracious and eat the food. Stop being such a damn picky eater.

That's funny. I read this question another way--like how do you not offend your host if he/she serves something you don't like. You guys seem to be concerned about finding ways to 'fill up'. No wonder everyone's such a fat ass.

When the table is set and everybody's about to dig in do a Chris Farley and "accidentally" trip violently into the table breaking it into a million pieces. Roll around in the food in a comical attempt at getting up. They'll have to order a pizza and bam, you're good to go.

I probably just wouldn't eat it. Why should I waste a portion of the food that they cooked when someone else would enjoy it much more? It's nothing against the host if they put something in it that makes me sick....like mushrooms. If someone asked me to eat fungus, I would wretch. If the host isn't offended by me horking his food up everywhere because at least I "tried it", that's pretty ****ing selfish.
