The host serves a dinner which includes a food you loathe. What do you do? Eat it anyway and bear it, or just avoid it?

I usually try to eat at least half of it, then claim to be full...or fill up on something else during the meal, like salad or sides. You can always eat something else later. To decline or say something like "No, I don't like that" is just rude.

I would probably just fill up on other things (salad, bread, sides, etc) and maybe take a little bite. If they felt the need to ask I would tell them the truth that I'm not particularly fond of the food but still willing to give it a try. It would probably be much less offensive to them if you at least try it than just telling them no. Also, I wouldn't sit and eat something I didn't like just to make them feel good.

That's funny. I read this question another way--like how do you not offend your host if he/she serves something you don't like. You guys seem to be concerned about finding ways to 'fill up'. No wonder everyone's such a fat ass.

I probably just wouldn't eat it. Why should I waste a portion of the food that they cooked when someone else would enjoy it much more? It's nothing against the host if they put something in it that makes me sick....like mushrooms. If someone asked me to eat fungus, I would wretch. If the host isn't offended by me horking his food up everywhere because at least I "tried it", that's pretty ****ing selfish.
