Commuter train/bus into Chicago
Does anyone have any info on these? I'm heading there Thurs-Sun/Mon, megabus is sold out already, and I'd rather not drive because of Taste of Chicago (which my friends live near), and my usual method of free parking isn't available. Amtrak takes like 2-3 hours more than driving, so I'm thinking of just driving to Gary or any other location an hour or so outside of Chicago and taking a commuter bus of train the rest of the way. Anyone ever do this?
This is the one I found so far, leaves Gary and goes to Millenium Station.
Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District
Any better ones? Any help is much appreciated.

Amtrak from Dearborn to Chicago on Thursday is sold out anyway. I've taken that trip four times and enjoy it.
EDIT: maybe it means "other options" are sold out or coach reserved is the only option.

Oh and that's the other thing, holy **** Amtrak is expensive It's way more than gas would cost me (and I wouldn't mind paying the extra amount if it were even remotely the same travel time).

If you're taking the South Shore, I'd recommend utilizing just about any other station besides the Gary stations.
Hammond, Michigan City, even South Bend. In fact if you're staying the weekend I'd suggest parking the car at the South Bend airport, and taking the train the rest of the way. A little more expensive with parking and train fare but then again all the less spent on gas.

Trust me, I would love to avoid the Taste of Chicago. Kinda have to go to Chicago though, throwing my friend's shower and bachelorette And the friend I'm staying with is just north of the park with the festival

Don't leave your car in Gary. If you do, make sure you have a gun.

You try planning a shower with dozens of chicks all around the country, especially when when two of the bridesmaids and two other good friends are getting married within the next few months themselves, and everyone has to go to THEIR showers/bachelorettes too, and they get pissed at you if they overlap or are even too close . I DON'T NEED ANOTHER PERSON GIVING ME **** I'M GETTING ENOUGH FROM ALL THESE GODDAMN WOMEN
So yeah, any help would be appreciated.

tWife and I normally take that out of Dune Park. Free secure parking and pay commuter prices to get into the city on the train. Highly recommend it

I think maybe his comment would also have to do with the fact that maybe you should have bought the ticket before this week.
Plus I think women get goddamn insane when it comes to anything wedding-related.

megabus usually just adds busses when they sell out each one, they do this for all holidays (my friends and I have used them quite a lot). They had tickets available yesterday, I waited til this morning when I had access to a printer. It's obviously the Taste of Chicago stuff screwed up my plan, I didn't realize til it was posted on here last night that it overlapped. Anyway, I'm fine with doing the commuter line route, I'm just asking for help from the tons of Chicago posters on here.
And yes, and I don't like it. I don't know how to handle myself around normal women anymore, but wedding-crazed women are even worse
