Congrats to Nicole Bush

Congratulations goes out to MSU's own Nicole Bush for her Heat 1 victory, and second overall finish, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. With the victory she now races again on July 4th at 12:45a ET in hopes to claim a seat on the USA team. She needs to finish 3rd overall, but she also needs to establish the 'A' standard of 9:46.00 still in order to qualify. If she can do both, then she will be her way to Beijing to represent the U.S. and MSU.

She has one XC season and one outdoor season left also. So she will be able to bring a great experience either way back to school to mentor the younger runners on the team.

First time I ever ran the steeple in college was at Grand Valley as an 18 yo frosh. The very first barrier, a guy from Ferris St. hit, bounced back and got tramped. They couldn't move him and there was no emt on site so they ended up moving the barrier to the outside lanes and we ran the race while this kid wailed out in pain. Turns out he had a broken ankle, a fractured wrist and a compound fracture to his tibia. I will never forget that race.

There is a former MSU men's runner still with a shot for the Olympic team. Steve Sherer, I think he graduated in 2004 actually runs unattached and coaches himself. He runs in the 1500 meters.......finished 2nd in his quarterfinals heat, and then qualified in the semi's. I think the finals are sunday night. Looking at his 'unattached' is quite funny compared to who he is up against.

Semi-Finals
1 Gabriel Jennings Saucony 3:40.07Q
2 Bernard Lagat Nike 3:43.83Q
3 Lopez Lomong Nike 3:40.26Q
4 Rob Myers Reebok 3:43.98Q
5 Leonel Manzano Nike 3:40.32Q
6 William Leer Oregon TC Elite 3:44.19Q
7 Christopher Lukezic Reebok 3:40.50Q
8 Steve Sherer unattached 3:44.20Q
9 Jon Rankin Nike 3:40.81Q
10 Alan Webb Nike 3:44.23Q
11 Said Ahmed Nike 3:41.05Q
12 Andrew McClary Arkansas 3:44.29Q
