The way these teams are spending right now, I could see someone offering Filppula 4M+ per year. Let's hope he sticks with the good guys at a discount.

The Wings are close to signing Chelios to a 1 year, $850,000 contract and have made an offer to McCarty.

6. Hossa was a reason that the Pens lost to the Wings
This guy must have watched a different Stanley Cup Finals than the rest of us. He doesn't know jack squat about hockey.

It's still better than Rob Parker.

I guess I'd make the distinction between very physical skill players (which is how I understand Hossa is generally regarded or the way Datsyuk played in the playoffs), grinders (Maltby) and goons (Ott, maybe.)
Give me one "grind line" and 2 or 3 skill lines.

Draper has never been much of a scorer. I think his career high is right around 40 points. That's not horrible by any means, but not what I would call a scorer. But he is fast, plays good defense, and is one of the best faceoff men in the NHL.
I've never really thought of Maltby as a physical player, at least not lately. He's more of an agitator.

true that draper has never been a big scorer. he's abt a 10 goal/year avg. but he had 24 goals in 03-04. my point is he's more of a scorer than a typical grinder

McCarty's would have the be a 2-way contract though wouldn't it? I love Mac and all, but I would hate to see Helm and Leino stuck in the minors all year.

The offers to both McCarty and Downey are for two way contracts.

Anyone see what the PTI guys were ripping on Hossa for?
I saw part of it and as soon as they called him dumb for leaving I smashed the TV and left the room.
So did they retract it or are they just that dumb?

It's Valtteri Filppula. He'll probably sign for $2.5 million.

Doubt it. There are probably teams out there that may offer him contracts of $3 million or more. I could see him signing a 3 year, $7.5 million contract.

Have Pittsburgh fans always sucked this much? I guess i've never paid any attention to them in any sport since their teams always suck
Check out this gem in response to losing Hossa:
Quote:
Hey Hossa, enjoy the reception the next time you suit up in Pittsburgh. If the wings crash and burn next year in the playoffs it will be even more stunning than the Patrits losing to the Giants. And LOL @ Wings fans trying to take digs at Crosby.....who's better than anybody wearing red and white. Wings fans would scoop Crosby up in a second if they could. They're just mad that nobody wearing red & white is marketable enough with a skill set to match to promote teh NHL. LOL. The Wings are the Champs, yet the face of the NHL is still the Pens. Suck on that.
The Hockey News: THN Analysis: Analysis: Rich get richer as Wings sign top UFA Hossa
|
Yes, we're so mad we don't have "the face of the NHL" and got stuck with this stupid oversized Silver Cup thing instead. so totally unfair
