I would have to choose between Morocco, Namibia, India, Turkey, Nepal and Bhutan.

This bafoon stares dumfounded at me for a few seconds, goes "uhh...uhhh...", than yells "Bankok!" and tries to hit me in the balls. I'd love to know where that guy is now.

That's an awesome story, did you counter with how Hong Kong was a British sphere of influence until the latter half of the 20th century then it went back under Chinese control?

If I had to choose now, I'd go India (everyone speaks English and at least I know some people there...and I don't like Indian food, but at least it's mostly vegetarian), or Japan (relatively well-off compared to the other options, but hard language to learn). Oh wait, that map cuts off at Romania? OK that's an option too. Really I'd have to research a whole lot. The 40-50% of 'blue' countries covers anywhere I'd choose to live of my own free will, and the rest are places where I'd absolutely never want to live, or know too little about to decide.
I love questions like this.

From everything I read, I would've wanted to live there too.

Seriously, I would've chosen it in the second for the language (although it'd take me months to get their accent) and culture. Granted it'd make visiting home rather difficult, but I love Cuban people, music, and what little of their food I can eat. And mojitos.

Grrrr.
2nd choice: Russia
Seems like a very odd map to me. I get the mostly western blue areas, but then a few scattered splotches of blue. I would assume those areas have now been conquered by West.
But what is that little speck of blue in the eastern part of the Mediterranean? N/NE part of Africa? I would guess Israel, but I would not call that western, since it part of the Middle East.
