Almost six, but it was quite glorious. The problem was they rolled it out regionally, hence the nickname, The Regional.

Sad to see its demise.

I read it from time to time. The odd thing is that I'd stop and buy it from a newspaper box. The kind you put $.50 in.
That was weird.

You kinda have to leave school early when you have more child support bills than anything else, dont you?
And the last issue with Charlie Weis on the cover, just started off gross, with a close up of his face, showing flakey skin and going right up his nose. It proceeded to say how Weis' life has been difficult and he's misunderstood. Difficult because he almost died from a gastric bypass surgery. A completely voluntary as well as obviously dangerous procedure. Then he sued the doctor to "prove a point." The other example was the fact his daughter has developmental disorders. Having a sister with a very similar condition, I can't help but not feel sorry for someone who has no problem affording the health care and access professional care that is so damn difficult to get any help from. The rest of the article detailed the examples of why people think he's arrogant.
I guess it just might be sour grapes on a few different levels, but I can't stand it when a story is a house built out of playing cards essentially, or a story that doesn't pass a litmus test. I guess it got a little off topic, so I'll bring it back I suppose: Sporting News, despite the occasional dropped ball, is still a solid alternative if you're sick of SI and ESPN. Had to vent, haha.

Sporting News became useless a few years ago when you could get everything in it online.

Exactly but for gambling purposes, it was indispensable. (While it lasted)

Therein lies the problem with all magazines..and newspapers to an extent. Why buy when you can get it for free online. Magazines and newspapers are bleeding circulation, and as a result, they're losing advertisers. SI is just one of the casualties.

Hmmmm.
Interesting research paper. The "Demise of SI"
I recall growing up and Thursdays were "Don't bother Dad" day, as he read through the whole thing. At that time, we lived in an era of local sports coverage only. Today we have a complete reversal with ESPN.
SI has lost it's relevance...

A laptop on the toilet is gross, as well as a potential disaster

I cancelled my subscription two months ago after realizing the SI website had better writing than the magazine (and more interesting analysis). Of course SI was nice enough to refund my money and are still sending me issues. I'll miss the photography but not the forced features on sports I don't care about and too many "profiles" telling me why some athlete (who will be mediocre in two years) is the greatest
