Y'know, I kinda feel bad that your back is hurting and you posted a serious question asking for help and all you got was a typical RCMB smart ass response that wasn't funny at all....
I don't know about devices, but I've had lower back problems in the past, and the thing I've found helps the most is strengthening it in the gym, my favorite exercise specifically is the one below. FWIW as your lower back gets stronger, it helps to hold a plate behind your head or in your arms. It has helped reduce the frequency and severity of these episodes big time. In fact I haven't had any real problems in a number of years. If this doesn't work, vicodin and skelaxin or valium will help. Good luck.

ice and cold, heat pads, slight massage, maybe chiropractor and STRETCHING. Then move on to core exercises. The back, as you well know, is a bitch. The thing about massage and chiropractor is that your body gets dependent on them.

This is the best machine/apparatus ever. My gym has one so your feet are on the ground so I also stand on the side and work the obliques.

Unstable exercising with an exercise ball builds and tones muscle fast!

Get an MRI and find out what is wrong with you back. It may be a disc???

I use an E-Stim machine (electrical stimulator) along with Celebrex and exercise. Works for me.

Solid advice. Definitely do this first before any of the exercises. You don't want to cause any damage to your body. If it's nothing too serious, but just nagging, maybe get a personal trainer to help work on your core muscles.
Not to freak you out, but a guy I went to high school with had back pain last year. Thought it was a bad case of sciatica. He went to the doc (specialist) and they ended up doing an MRI. It turns out he had a tumor..with it's own vascular system--and it was intertwined with the nerve. Not sure which one it is, but either the nerve had grown around the tumor or vice versa. They had to break off the tip of his vertabrae to get it out and then he couldn't work for 3-6 months (the motion of stop and go in the car would have been painful). He said his doc was going to do a paper on his tumor b/c he had never seen anything like that before.
Definitely get checked out if you haven't already!

I had terrible lower back pain for a few years. I tried the Chiropractor for a while which helped at first, but in the long run the pain was still there. I decided to get an inversion table (Closeout at Sams Club) and have had no long term pain since. If I have done something to aggravate my back, I get on the inversion table that evening and in the morning I'm fine. I am only speaking from my experience. Obviously you will want to get it checked out by a doctor to look for the things mentioned in the above posts.

Get a new chair for work!
If your job requires you to sit all day, get rid of your normal chair and get one of those chairs designed in Holland that requires you to sit and kneel at the same time. After a while you will get used to it and your back will be much better because you will stop slouching.
I have been using one of these chairs for about 10 years.I have two bad discs in my back and I'm basically pain free.

Actually, there is one that works. Obviously in cases where it isn't a tumor or definable medical condition.
It's the Sacro-Wedgy. $30. Saved me from lower-back surgery. Chiropractors couldn't reduce the pain. After four weeks of use, back pain went away. Rarely returns, but proper muscle exercises helps prevent, and if it does come back, I get the Sacro Wedgy out of my drawer. Works for both sitting and sleeping. And I play a lot of tennis and other sports, so a lot of twisting in my lower spine.
Works for a lot of conditions, but not everyone. Worth the chance, though, and doctors are OK with it, although they'd rather get the bucks for surgery.
