Watership Down?

Has anyone ever seen this movie? Its pretty messed up, I just rented it because apparently I use to watch it all the time when I was a kid.

For anyone that does not know, here is the Wikipedia article on it:
Watership Down - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyone have any comments on it? Very strange, I am about a hour into it now.

With all due respect, you've got to be ****ing kidding me. The book has been universally lauded as one of the great debut novels in modern history. The praise for it when it came out (late 70's) was almost exclusively superlative.

That book is one of the best I've personally ever read - I've read it something like eight or nine times over the years. If you're mature enough to see past the fact that the protagonists are rabbits (yeah, I know, seems pretty wack), it's just a fantastic adventure novel. The author (Richard Adams) also successfully creates a believable mythology, linguistics, and culture... for rabbits. Plus there's one of the most badass villains I've ever read in any piece of literature.

All that said, the movie sucks. It couldn't hold the book's jock if it used both hands.

easssssy. Maybe it just wasn't exactly my slice of cake. Maybe it was the fact it was an assigned reading and I was a senior in high school so I didn't give the reading my all. Nevertheless, I did not enjoy the book. But I'm glad that you did.

The band America was originally asked to write a song for the movie version, but it never made it into the movie. Music great Harry Nilsson provided input/critique of the song to friend Gerry Beckley. The song ended up on the album Hideaway.

Watership Down, gather around
There's a story to be told
It's for the young and for the old
You might hear them in the distance
If your ear's to the ground

Whisper it loud, carry the sound
Of the footsteps alone
When they're heading for home
Through the raining of the dangers
And the grayness of the dawn

I can feel there's better days
Well, they're comin', they're comin'
I can see them through the haze
So can you

Watership Down, gather around
There's a story to be told
It's for the young and for the old
You might hear them in the distance
If your ear's to the ground

I can feel there's better days
Well, they're comin', they're comin'
I can see them through the haze
So can you

Oo, oo, oo
