In the article below from 2 days ago the Double J owners were already talking about selling the place. So I would say the comment below is still valid even though the bank took control.
"All indications from the ROTHBURY co-producers and Double JJ owners is that a second festival is planned for next summer. Festival organizers expect crowds to double in 2009 based upon the successful first-year event."
UPDATE: Double JJ owners planning to sell embattled resort - Muskegon Chronicle - MLive.com

Madison House provided some talent, logistics, stages, etc.
Double JJ provided land and some buildings.
DK, A&O and someone else provided security.
Double JJ owes the banks, not MH or AEG. They both got paid as did everyone except the Double JJ.

Oh enlighten me, sage of the stage.
My stats were from the Muskegon Chronicle. Blame them.
Also, do you think anyone would TOUCH this festival next year? If you think so, you don't know that area very well. It barely got done this year.
That being said, I was/am a fan of the Festival and HOPE it will happen but after growing up around there I'd really doubt the local officials will let it happen again...

There is one thing I know about Rothbury for sure and that is Chachi has more background connections and true information that all of us combined.
It was a great freakin festival and (for the most part) the musicians, fans, local residents and law enforcement all thought it was a positive thing and can't wait to do it next year.
The JJJJ will have their troubles, but AEG will not.

Speaking of downers, anyone ever figure out what killed those two people at Rothbury?

It wasn't a truck dude it was your girlfriend. Luckily I stepped out of the way long enough for her to waddle by.
I think I saw a twitching foot sticking out of one of her rolls...was that you?
C'mon dude it was news. I hope the festival comes back next year better than ever. Just don't think they'll let it.

I dunno... Altimont only had 4 deaths out of 300,000 people. Perhaps Rothbury should give their security guards sawed off pool cues and let them stab people next year?

My good friend was one of the higher-ups involved with organizing and running Rothbury.
He told me a couple weeks ago that it was well known the JJ Ranch was going under and that it wasn't going to stop Rothbury at all.

Well, Double JJ is about to be sold off in October, so it remains to be seen if they'll have any connections to repeat the show in 2009:
Bankruptcy shuts down Double JJ - Muskegon Chronicle - MLive.com
Quote:
ROTHBURY -- The Double JJ resort ceased operations Wednesday in the face of an expected early October sale forced by a bankruptcy court.
Some 150 year-round employees were among the staff told of the resort's closure and provided job-seeking assistance through Michigan Works displaced workers program. At its summer peak, Double JJ -- West Michigan's only destination resort -- employs about 375, making it one of Oceana County's largest employers.
Post-bankruptcy financing is not sufficient to keep the resort operating for the next month now that the summer season is over, resort spokeswoman Michelle Lantz said. Including the Gold Rush indoor water park, Thoroughbred Golf Course, Sundance Saloon, Back Forty Resort and traditional dude ranch, the Double JJ is a 2,000-acre site in southern Oceana County's Grant Township.
"It is with a heavy heart that we had to suspend operations at the resort today," Double JJ General Manager Tony Laughlin said in a prepared statement late Wednesday. "While we had little choice ... that does not make the decision any easier. We all hope that the sale happens quickly and the resort will soon open once again."
The Double JJ hosted a successful four-day environment-themed music festival ROTHBURY in July. The second year of the event hinges on the completion of the resort's sale and the prerogatives of a new owner.
All of the employees, condominium owners, ROTHBURY producers and community leaders turn their attention to the expected Oct. 2 auction sale of the resort. Bankruptcy trustee Thomas A. Bruinsma will be in Judge Jeffrey R. Hughes courtroom Sept. 11 to complete the details of the sale.
After the sale, Bruinsma is expected to return to the court Oct. 3 to take up issues surrounding current contracts and leases.
One of the most significant leases is with AEG Live and Madison House Productions, which produced the initial ROTHBURY event. The promoters have at least two years remaining on its existing contract with Double JJ.

I heard last week, thru a pretty credible source linked thru business dealings, that the promoters of the music fest will be bidding on the property and are expected to be one of the few serious bidders....

I believe that's the same route that the Bonnaroo folks did with the property down in TN.
Could work out great!

There is a LOT of money wrapped up in the condos. I can't image they couldn't find some way to keep this place open in the future.

It's ok I'll be there next summer (hopefully) when they will undoubtedly have TAB headlining
