Observations made during Tropic Thunder last night

Took wife to see TT last night. Here is what we saw and observed:

1). Movie is rated R. Lots of fat white trash people brought their kids, KIDS!!!! to see this movie! We are talking 7 to 10 year old range. What the hell is wrong with parents of my generation and below?

2). None of the African Americans in the audience laughed at the humor. There was one couple next to us and it actually became uncomfortable because they did not think a white guy playing a black guy was funny. My wife and I are laughing and we actually toned down our laughter because .......well, the African Americans were not laughing. Hmmmmmmm. Why can they make fun of us in their movies and not vice versa?

3). It's a comedy worth seeing again, at home where the wife and I can laugh out loud at the jokes.

4). Jack Black as the heroin addict was great.

5). Tom Cruise was brilliant.

Different movie but same scenario when the wife and I went to Dark Knight, was amazed to see that age group at a movie!!! Even worse one kid was hacking and coughing, clearly sick and should have been home instead of the movie.

I thought the movie was pretty bad, but Tom Cruise was effing hilarious as hell. God I hate admitting that.

My wife and I saw it last week and we saw the same thing as you did with kids at the movie - in fact little kids at movies they have no business being at is a big pet peeve of my wifes so she said something to me about it in about 20 seconds after the frist preview.

As for you second point - my bosses assisant went and saw it (she is African American) and loved it. She said that when she saw it the white people were not laughing until the "black people started". When I saw it I did not notice any racial laughing points - so I guess it is what ever movie theatre you go to.

You other 3 ponts dead on!

a man of your stature and confidence is afraid to laugh out loud at jokes in a movie in a public place? Wow Grandpa Tanner, very dissapointing for a 'board legend'.

You should watch it here in Livonia, Tanner. There's not as much white trash here where I live, plus, as you have mentioned to me many times, there are no black people for you to feel uncomfortable around.

I came into the movie with pretty high expectations (84% on rottentomatoes or something), and I didn't think it was that good at all.

Not to say it was a BAD movie, but it certainly isn't one of the funniest movies I've seen lately.

I thought they could have done a lot more with Jack Black. He is a funny, funny dude, and I thought his character was only mildly funny.

The one scene when Ben Stiller was holding up the head was absolutely hilarious though....

You should have laughed your ass off and then looked over and asked, "Is that how it really is? Because that is so funny."

TDK is PG-13 though. Kids don't have to be with their parents for that one, but if I had young kids I wouldn't take them or let them see it. And the sick kid shouldn't be there for 2 reasons, he's sick and he should be recovering, and it's very inconsiderate to force everyone in the theater to have to listen to it.

Maybe I'm in a minority here, but I hated Tropic Thunder. I have to admit several parts were very funny, but other than those selected scenes(the Tom Cruise ones specifically), I just kind of sat there not laughing while the rest of the theater went nuts. And I'm the target demographic(17 year old guy) on top of it all. Weird. Maybe that's just not my type of humor?

i just downloaded the movie and it wasn't that great, even Tom Cruise. Not sure what the hype is about. But then again I thouigh Dark Knight was just another Batman movie.

So the guy in movie is a "black guy" but the people sitting next to you were African-Americans?

Yeah, because he was playing a character out of the late 60s. Hence he was playing a "black guy." Fast forward to 2008 and political correctness and the modern reference is "African American." See how it works? It's very easy. You are a very silly, silly person.

So would my plan of going to see this movie dressed as a white guy dressed as a black guy including blackface pretending to be the character from the film go over well

No, really...until I'm referred to as "European-American"...oh, nevermind.

Only if you attempt to look like a "Black guy" from the late 60s or early 70s. You need the long side burns. Damn, the wife and I enjoyed that movie.

Word....I think I could score some crap hair at the barber shop...Come to think of it this will be a great Halloween costume as well...In fact I think I will get a group together and roll as the entire cast and stay in charcter all night. Added props if I can find a guy to go as Simple Jack.
