Buy the stuff you need at your destination and when you are done donate it to charity or take it back to GoodWill. Not worth the hassle of carrying a bag...

I got my bags here a few years ago.
Briggs and Riley Luggage,Hartmann,Travelpro Swiss Army...
They are Detroit based, had good service and prices. I really like the Dakota bags I got from them, but it looks like they don't carry them anymore.

try younkers, jcpenney, or macys if they are having sales. i got my luggage for spain (delsey brand) at younkers when it was on sale for $30 per piece. held up pretty well with travel.

You just missed the sales. They generally run at graduation time, Christmas time and back to school time.
We got a Richardo set at Kohls.
But check the sizes of the bags and carry ons to make sure the airline will take them. Contrary to what the luggage says on each piece (approved by FAA) the FAA doesn't determine carry on or checked sizes - just safety. Take your tape measure with you when shopping and look at your airlines restrictions.

Yep, you can get Samsonite, etc., pay about 1/3-1/2 retail, and plan on tossing it in a couple of years due to extreme wear and tear in the airports. I only fly about once a month and even the "good stuff" seems to last only a few years.

the last two trips i have used my Hockey bag
