Apparently Wayne State's medical school future is questionable. According to some reports I've read, Wayne state's residency programs are having contractual disputes that could leave them dead in the water and without 4-year medical school accreditation.

That's not entirely true. Wayne and the DMC are splitting up their shared programs. They're not going away,

although I think most of that got resolved in 2006, it still is rather disturbing for their residency programs, especially with Oakland waiting in the wings

meanwhile while Wayne med implodes, MSU-CHM is just finishing the steel on its $90 million second campus on GR's Medical Mile. This "division" will focus on research while the traditional one in Lansing will continue pumping out primary care and specialists...
MSU-CHM is positioned to excel while Wayne is on the decline...facing increased competition and piss poor leadership...
I would take an MSU degree over a Wayne degree any day. Those of you who wouldn't are on crack.

your right i work for wayne... go to the campus..
and my undergrad profs at state sucked for the most part or ta whatever they call them... If you think of the professional talent in the Detroit area versus Lansing you can see how Wayne can attract a much more established business leader for teaching professional level courses..

Who said otherwise? I dont' know why you are dancing on Wayne's grave, though. The more good med schools Michigan has, the better.
I want all Michigan universities to do well as it helps the state I live in. I think MSU and Wayne can co-exist and both have strong med programs. I see MSU as serving totally different areas and building an identity in west Michigan while SE Michigan is well-served by UM, Wayne and soon, Oakland U.
Having this many facilities gives Michigan a leg up on other states that don't have such a system. I question why you'd take such pleasure in teh downfall of Wayne unless they rejected you or something.

Did Wayne State have some big rivalry against Northwood or something and you lost all the time? I'm totally confused as to how there can be so much vitriol against a place like Wayne State of all places.

Wayne does have some decent profs. My advanced calc prof was from UofMaa as was my Russian prof. Too bad they had to dumb down the curriculm to match the students. It was a joke.
I like waynes campus. The administration sucks horribly. I just picture the same losers on the city council running the university (remember the video of the one chick calling the other guy "skrek"? ) Either that or the girl from Cold in da D video is running things. Detroit is a DUMP.

If you look at the 2008 edition of the US News & World Report Guide to Medical Schools you will see that the average MCAT for entering students at MSU (28.5) is lower than the average MCAT at Wayne( 30.3). The reason MSU's MCAT is lower is that MSU is a less desirable medical school in the eyes of students in spite of the fact that Wayne is in a war zone. Wayne's average GPA is higher as well. The reason for the difference is that Wayne graduates get better residencies.

what about MSU-COM expanding into detroit, I think this will have an impact on WSU and their relationship with the DMC.

No one said this. They are saying it's ridiculous to attack a school based on its Web site and that there is something wrong with educating Detroit residents.

As a guy that lives in the neighborhood, I would disagree with calling this a war zone. I've lived all over the country and this neighborhood ranks 3rd with all the places I've lived for what's important to me.

or attack a school for their crappy administration?
I think it's very fair to attack a school if their website is crap. Why isn't it? Would you eat at a restaurant that was filthy?? This is the electronic age, muh friend, if they can't interface with potential and current students, what does that say about the institution?
I'm trying to find information on different programs they offer and I feel like I'm on a HS-generated website. I could make a better website using MS Word. Not to mention I can't find ANY of the information that I want!!
If you compares Wayne's website to MSU or UofMs, you simply get the perception that Wayne doesn't have their **** together. IN FACT, you'd almost wonder if it was some 3rd rate inner city school.
