why is wayne state such a crap school?
you go to their website and it looks like something done by high school kids. It's a total piece of crap.
Now I know WSU has some decent programs and some decent teachers. But are they forced to take Detroit residents? Or is there an affirmative action thing or something?
The school looks like a major joke, but I'm sure the money and resources are there to make it otherwise.
just venting, I want to go back to school and WSU would be the best option, but compared to MSU or UofM, it looks like dog ****.

Wayne State has many fine programs - way to trash a school by looking at its website. Do some research on the specifics areas you want to study there. It is affordable and its location is pretty nice.

They have a medical school. One of only three allopathic schools within this state. They get more state funding per pupil than MSU. They also produce 1/3 of the practicing physicians within this state. They are a very good school. They have a bad site, so what?

FTW, I've never been closer than driving by their campus. I work with a number of their grads, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for that institution. So, with only four total medical schools in Michigan, two at MSU, one at SCum, and one at WSU, it's idiotic to portray WSU as anything other than a top notch institution.
Add in the fact that the WSU faculty physicians group provide millions of dollars uncompensated care to the uninsured of Detroit. I know nothing of their other programs, but that fact alone gets my Irish up if anyone wants to disrespect WSU.

they have the largest medical school in the US, so they are producing more than 1/3 of the state's physicians, especially considering a lot of AA's head out of state/don't practice primary care.

Well if we're talking primary care then the MSU Osteopathic school probably produces the most physicians in that area. U of M the least, part of that being U of M has a world medical school. More of their grads specialize than MSU CHM, MSU COM, and WSU. It's rare to find a derm who went to one of the three other medical schools, just because the residency programs are so competitive.

Glad your complete judgment of the school is based on the website. Honestly, I don't think they focus on it that much.

That's being kind. Our commercials suck.

I actually attended WSU. WSU has profs from UofMAA teach there.
But the student population is easily subpar to UofM/ MSU. They must be very liberal in who they let in. And there are administration issues with the school as well, you can't help feel like the school is run by Kwame's friends....or idiots that got the job because someone is related to them in high places.
The website is a symbol of how the school is run: a mess.
So I'm not going to argue that there aren't some great programs and great educators. I'm just wondering why the rest of the school comes off like a giant CLUSTER ****.
Like someone said above, they get plenty of money.

Of course the student body is not comparable to U-M or MSU. That's not WSU's mission. What good is having three highly selective universities in the state? It's an affordable, decent option for Michigan residents. Good. What a stupid argument.
Basically Wayne is there to counteract the fact that U-M would rather educate New York and New Jersey's best than actual Michiganders.

FYI, MSU is the only (last I knew) institution with 3 medical schools.

Wayne Med is effed as soon as Beaumont/Oakland's new med school kicks them out of Beaumont. Also, MSU-CHM is doubling in size. Many of my wife's classmates secured residencies in competitive specialties... Between MSU-CHM and Wayne Med, at least MSU will have a shot at becoming ranked in research into the coming years... Wayne is stagnant and declining...

Wayne has law, medical and dental. It was said pretty recently that if Wayne had Big Ten sports like MSU and UM, people would have a much higher opinion of the school academically, and I tend to agree.

Isn't Wayne's med school affiliated with DMC? I don't know what Beaumont has to do with things. Plus, I'd say there's room for the additional med school without it hurting the existing schools. It's a profession in huge demand. It's not like we are talking about another law school.

Wayne law is behind MSU, and has no dental school.

How is that schools like Oakland U and Lawrence Tech have there **** together but WSU doesn't?
Affordable or not, whoever is running the school is doing a piss poor job.

Beaumont is a much better institution than DMC...very good residency programs...DMC is your typical detroit institution.

How is it that Lawrence Tech and Oakland have their **** together but not WSU? Can you give examples? Although it probably helps Larry Tech that it has like 4000 students total compared to like 25000 at Wayne.
