He gives the edge between our OL and Rb vs. Cal's front 7 to... Cal. I am wondering if he did any research on this. Yes, Cal's 4 LB are very good, but... Cal switched to a 4-3 because their d-line was very bad.

That NFL-caliber DL? He has NFL-caliber talent (according to coaches), but has yet to show it on the field.

The Cal NTs? Both are hurting, and they've moved the frosh to start because the senior is so banged up.

We have 3 outstanding OL returning, a solid replacement in Rocco and a guy who started some last year manning the last OG spot.

And, oh yeah, we have Ringer.

I'm sure he'll be more than happy to eat his words. I like that he's at least attempting to be semi-objective, even if he's overcompensating in order to do so.

Little surprised he gave that edge but can see why in some ways. Our OL is very thin and any injuries today to that OL could lead to problems.

I care in that he is our writer, and he shows he did little research on the topic. he only hints that Cal switched base D because their d-line sucked, has no quotes from Tedford in the spring about the challenges of recruiting good DTs, and has zero mention of the two injuries to their top two DTs and the fact that they are being forced to plug in a frosh to battle Nitchman and Martin inside.

And what does this mean? Power FB. Center not always needing a double, Martin free to move to a LB, and Hawken flying behind him to clean-up, with Ringer possibly not even being touched up the middle on first contact until he's 2+ yards up field. This completely opens up the play-action, guarantees if it happens that the LBs will start creeping up to the line and be looking into the backfield and that Gantt will have several great opportunities over the middle for big plays.

It also means the opportunity to control TOP and keep Cal's very inexperienced and young, but very talented skill players off the field.
