Since I know **** about gambling, is that the line? The +6 meaning they expect us to lose by 6 or is it 6/6.5 to 1 for betting on MSU?

It means that, since the time Cal was favored to win by 4.5 a ton of money was bet on Cal winning by more than that. All that betting raised the point spread because the book tries to have equal #s of bets on both sides of the line. Nothing to do with anything like player losses.

exactly...the line was getting smaller becomes of the amount of money being bet on MSU to not loss by more than the line OR to win of course. Now it appears the line got small enough (although it has been 4.5 for a week at least) that major money has been bet on Cal.

I assume it is from the crowds at Vegas for the weekend. So it is the public talking, not a knowledgable group. haha

yes it does...injuries, suspensions, players missing a game have an impact on where people bet he money. if we were to play OSU and he day before the game their entire starting defense gets thrown in jail the money line would drastically change when people dump **** done of money on MSU

I know how it works (I know the other fella asked) but I'm curious why all the late money on Cal?

More than likely because a bunch of people from LA/California are in Vegas for the weekend and decided to throw money on Cal.

It might be indirectly related to player losses, plus a thousand other variables, yes. But it is directly due to the betting patterns.

Actually, the game would probably be taken off the board. UCLA/Tennessee was taken off the board weeks before the game when UCLA's QBs went down.

Are you Tim Staudt who displays his ignorance regarding gambling lines regularly? The point spread is used to make sure that equal amounts of money are bet on each team....the Vegas sports books aren't betting on who will win or lose because they have a guaranteed WIN when equal amounts of money are bet on each team...they skim their fee off the top and then pay the winners off with the loser's money. So, if the amount of money bet on MSU is larger than that bet on Cal, they lower the spread; if the amount bet on MSU is smaller than that bet on Cal, they raise the point spread so more MSU money comes in. Why is this so uncommonly understood by so-called sports fans?

I love vBookie, but gambling on sports is, IMO foolish. 'That's why they play the games' kinda thing. That's all....not trying to jinx or talk junk or whatever.
