Were analyzing what I was searching?

I was going to start a thread similar but asking "What to Buy?"

I like the gaming experience of the xbox 360, the exclusive titles, and the online system. here's my dilemma:

Arcade version: $199

or should I go:

Refurbished 20GB HDD w/o HDMI $179 no tax, free shipping from Buy.com

vs.

60GB Pro@$299

Just want to hear some opinions. TIA

Didn't they just do a price drop on one of the 360 models? Down to $249 or something like that?

I thought it was the 60GB, or did I miss something?

I kind of left my PS2 in my trunk all summer so dumb.

It worked FINE for 8 years. Oh well..have to move on sometime.

I would pay Microsoft $199 if they made it so I couldn't hear my neighbor's DVD drive through the wall.

I wouldn't buy a refurbished one unless there is a warranty, given all the quality problems (and this is coming from someone who is firmly in the 360 camp).

I also wouldn't get one without a hard drive unless you are an extremely casual gamer; you need one for Xbox 1 backwards compatibility, if you plan to download any games or movies, and in the fall update you'll be able to install games to the HDD for quicker load times so its nice to have for that. I don't remember if a HDD is required for Xbox Live Gold or not.

Also, you only get cables for a standard-def hookup if you buy an Arcade system. Here is a good comparison:

You'll want some sort of hard drive. I get by just fine with the 20GB version though right now. Course there is talk that like the PS3 you'll be able to preload parts of future games onto the HD so that they load faster, etc.

I've had my 360 for over 2 years, and I still have over 6 GB left on the drive. I don't download any music or movies, just XBLA games and the occasional demo. Space has never been an issue for me, but now I'm thinking I want a bigger HDD for the preloading feature. I also wonder if the Netflix thing is going to require extra space, I don't know if its going to do any hard drive caching or not...

My reasons exactly for considering an upgrade....but their hard drive prices are ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS.

Tell me about it. You almost just want to go buy the elite, because it's a better friggin' deal than buying just the 120 GB hard drive.

Did Microsoft find a way around the RROD thing yet?

I'd really like to buy a 360, but all of those RROD failure rate stories have always left me hesitant toward actually making the damn purchase.

New! I have an elite, its worth every freaking penny . And yeah, the HD prices are ridiculous if you buy them seperately. As a sidenote, some stores still have the 20GB models in stock still (i.e WalMart). Perhaps that might be an option to look into? It's cheaper than the 60GB model as well, and has the HDMI ports and what not.

QFT

I'm glad I only use my HDD for XBLA games, demos (which are temporary) and game saves. 20GB is a black hole if you only use it for that, so thankfully I haven't had to drop $150 or whatever the hell it is for a bigger one. But their prices for hard drives (and accessories in general) are completely absurd. $90 for a wireless adapter? Are you kidding me? It should do Wi-Fi, EV-DO, and WiMAX () for that price...I bought an el cheapo wireless bridge instead and configured it with a PC, my 360 thinks its plugged into a wired connection...it works great for less than half the price. I still only have 2 controllers because they cost almost as much as a game.

there is no reason not to get an elite. 120GB hard drive plus HDMI is perfect. Just wait until October when Gears 2 comes out, it is going to be a **** show. Can't ****ing wait.

What's the difference between this Arcade xbox and other ones? Pretty much all I'd be getting a system for would be to get GTA IV, maybe some college football at some point...

Finally! I've been waiting on this drop to buy one for my second media extender.

Having a built-in media extender has to be the most unsung feature of the 360. I bought a wireless Linksys extender a month or so ago and being able to control and play all the media (mp3s, movies, TV shows) I have on my computer on the living room TV and speakers has been nice - now I can move the Linksys to the bedroom and throw the 360 in the living room, and I'll have everything available in 3 rooms.

Bump for a question:

Let me see if I have this right.
The Arcade xbox 360 now has an HDMI port and a wireless controller. T/F

so is the difference between all the models now just HD space?

if so, could you conceivably "make" an Elite model for cheaper than buying an Elite model? ($199+$149 vs. $399)

Also can you use the Xbox Gold Online on the Arcade version? I thought you couldn't before.

I'll hang up and read - Thanks in advance.

So on an Arcade you get no hard drive, no headset, no network cable (BFD its just an ethernet cable), and standard-def video cables only (no component or HDMI cables...the console can use them but you'd have to get them seperately).

BTW, the last line about Xbox 1 backwards compatibility is a little misleading. You are required to have a hard drive to play Xbox 1 games, so if you add a hard drive to an Arcade version at a later date you can play original Xbox games.
