Former Michigan State wrestler Rashad Evans, 28, prepares for the fight of his life Saturday against Ultimate Fighting Championship favorite Chuck Liddell. The match, in Atlanta, is available through pay-per-view only and puts Evans' 16-0 career record on the line. "This is one of those opportunities that's a win-win situation," said Evans, a former security guard at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing after college. "If you go out and win you get experience, if you go out and lose you get experience." Liddell, 38, nicknamed "The Iceman" is 21-5 and considered by many the most popular figure in the sport. Evans lives in the Lansing area and is a volunteer assistant coach for MSU's wrestling program. He hasn't fought in more than 11 months, but believes he's as ready as he can be for this matchup. The fight is scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday. "You just got to go out and do it," said Evans of his strategy. Evans, originally from Niagara Falls, N.Y., resides in the Lansing area with his wife, LaToya and two children. He participated in the NCAA Wrestling Championships for MSU in 2003. A win Saturday will continue Evans meteoric rise through the fighting ranks. He recently filmed a commercial for Microsoft that's scheduled to debut Sept. 8. Evans broke into professional mixed martial arts fighting in 2004 after winning The Ultimate Fighter 2, a TV reality show that forced participates to endure less than ideal conditions in Las Vegas. Among the nine heavyweight competitors selected for the show, Evans was the shortest (5-feet-11 and the second lightest (225 pounds). "This has been a crazy ride, but a whole lot of fun," Evans said. Michigan State coach Tom Minkel said it's been a pleasure to have Evans around the program. Minkel recruited Evans out of junior college and never thought UFC would be an option for such a humble, low key kind of person. The coach admits it took him a while to take the sport seriously. But he saw how dedicated Evans was during a live fight in Sin City and gain appreciation for it. "The sky is the limit if you allow it to be, if you're not afraid to step out and take some risks," Minkel said. "Certainly this is a combination of Rashad being in the right place at the right time, but also not being afraid to go for it." Evans and the MSU wrestling program will be featured in a pre-fight show on SpikeTV called "UFC 88 Countdown," scheduled to be broadcast 11 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Saturday. There's no doubt that Evans is proud to be a Spartan. He wants to inspire others and possibly start up a training gym in the Lansing area sometime in the near future. "Those guys are where I started out," said Evans of current MSU wrestlers. "Just seeing the fresh look in their eyes is something I remember and treasure. "It keeps you grounded because it always reminds you where you came from."
I am seriously considered doing something to get arrested so I can spend some time with the chicks that are getting arrested tonight....

For those that missed the Evans vs. Iceman preview, it will be replayed on Spike TV tomorrow at 6pm EST (5pm CST). They do a cool bio of Rashad with lots of great footage of him training in the Lansing area as he gets ready to fight Chuck...

Even though he is a . He's also a boring ass fighter whos overrated. He won't be able to take chuck down and Chuck will dominate the standup. Its going to be ugly.
Video of the weigh-ins. Chuck's gut looks bigger than ever...
Jesus ... I thought this was photoshopped until I saw the vid..... There is something seriously wrong with this guy. Look at the indentations on either side of the gut. Almost looks as though he's had surgery -- though not liposuction!
Anybody else see anything wrong with the fact that Liddell looks to be a good 4-5" taller, but is only one pound heavier? What's wrong with this picture?
And, BTW, no, I will not be watching, or no. I've never seen anything in MMA to make me want to watch.

For those that didn't see it, it was a big overhand right that landed flush on the chin! After the KO, Rashad thanked the fans in Lansing for their support.
