The D actually has been the bright spot of this game. Only given up little over 50 yards on 30+ carries

Syd'Quan had another big INT tonight. Returned it 90 yards, but no TD?

They really rolled up Wazzou tonight.

I don't care who they are playing....that's ****ing amazing. Got to feel a whole lot better about how close we played them last week at their house.

14 carries, 200 yards and 3 TDs. Yep, THAT bastard is fast as hell.

I'm telling ya.....SC sure as **** better not sleep on this team this year.

One thing that I did find interesting was that Riley's stat line read 6-14, and Longshore's read 7-8. I gotta believe Riley's the man this year after what he did to us.

None of which changes the fact MSU shot themselves in the ass several times and could/should have won the Cal game.

Honestly when will you dumb asses stop this "Well it was a good loss because....." bull****. Its this kind of crap that's held this program back for the last 40 years.

MSU should not have won the game. CAL has better players.

Nothing makes me feel better about a loss... but looking forward, the better Cal is... that is a sign we might be a better football team than some people predicted immediately after the loss. If Cal ends up at #2 again at some point, us going in their house and competing is a better sign for us than losing to a team that ends up finishing at the bottom of the Pac-10.

While it doesnt effect our record, or get us to bowl games, and while we have been down this road a lot recently....I am happy to see that Cal is a good football team. That only means we got tested a little more than what we thought, and although we didnt pull it out ... we competed (and had chances to win).

MSU fans have not held this program back. They have supported the program through thick and thin, and given alot more than they've gotten back in results.

Recognizing Cal is a good team does not equate to our loss being a good loss.

Not the fans, but the acceptance that playing a good team tough is good enough, which the fans and program both have been guilty of, has certainly held this program back.

well, looks like I called it last week when I said Best would break a bunch of huge runs and have a number of 200-yard games....

And explain to me why someone would "simply" post the score of Cal other than to try and illustrate how happy people should be that they played them close........Is there some kind of huge Cal following on here I'm not aware of?

Have fun trying to come up with some ridiculous statement of "Oh it had nothing to do with last week's loss, it was just a coincidence, we just really like Cal".

Who is saying its good enough? It gives us an indication that MSU may be better than what some think. Is it really that hard to understand?

That argument might have some merit if MSU hadn't played that card so many times in the past few years.

Game against a tough opponent.....MSU loses a close game.....Everyone says its a measuring stick about how good this team is and how the program is going in the right direction....MSU goes in the tank and finishes around or below .500.

When MSU closes the deal on these kind of games then I'll believe its a possible indicator of where they're going. In the meantime its just more of this idle speculation nonsense that hasn't panned out so many times before.

And I don't care what anyone says....that game was there for the taking and they lost it with some huge mistakes.

Lets not forget EMU totally battered Indiana State. And except for 2 big plays, we shut them down. In fact, you get the Ringer fumble back, take away that big reception or big run, and it's 49-3.

I think our defense might be pretty good. And the offense dominated as well.

Really? I thought that it had to do with a couple of NCAA infractions, some lazy coaching/recruiting, and some bad coaching hires. Thanks for clearing up my misconceptions.

And in typical RCMB-idiot fashion, you apply a made up, exaggerated quote that no one even came close to saying. There is a monumental difference between saying it was a good loss (which no one has) and saying that we lost to a good team.

Syd'Quan Thompson had two picks he got caught at the 5 as he made a huge cut around the WSU 30 yard line and looked gassed and got tackled at the 5.

Riley was off all day. His passing was bad but all of his bad throws were out of bounds except one. His pocket leaship was good. Had Riley been as good as he was against you guys Cal could have put up 90+

Vareen had a great 40 yard TD run.

Best's first 80 yard was way too easy. There was a lane of 5 yards that opened up. His second 80+ yard run was amazing because the defender had a great angle on him and he just outran the angle.

It's funny a few people commented that Cal didn't play that great today although the D was outstanding as Cal held WSU to 57 yards rushing on 35 carries.

D had four ints. Gave up only 167 yards of O.

WSU is really bad to be honest but I would put Cal's RBs against any in the country.

As for what I've seen I've pegged you guys at 4-1 going into the Iowa game which will be tough and 6-1/5-2 going into Ohio St. (of course depending on the Iowa game).

I see 7 wins minimum with Iowa, Penn St. Ohio St. and Wisconsin being the tough games. Good news as 3 of those 4 are at home.

And that statement doesn't change the fact that MSU lost, either. Yeah, a loss is a loss. But the Cal game was the first game of the season. The fact that Cal looks like a good team, rather than a bad one, makes me feel better about the rest of the season.

oh shut the **** up. so many people were saying the sky was falling because we couldn't beat a ****ty Cal team...well guess what, Cal isn't so ****ty after all, and we played them awfully tough in their place. No one is saying it was a "good loss" - just that we can't consider it a "bad" loss or that it was any indication that we aren't any good. On the contrary, seeing Cal absolutely destroy a Pac 10 team on the road a week later should give the naysayers a bit of pause and we can breathe a little easier knowing how well we actually played them. The biggest thing I think we can say is our defense isn't as bad as people were saying based on that game.

Yep last year they went 6-0 and climbed all the way up to a #2 ranking. It quickly headed sough for them after that and they bombed out. Cal is notorious for doing this every year a la MSU. They have the talent to finish strong but they usually Wiley E Coyote themselves off of the cliff. MEEP MEEP!

What are you talking about? Tedford is 22-17 in the "second half" of the season in his tenure at Cal, with only on losing second half, last year. That includes going 4-1 in bowl games. Of course that record doesn't stand up to his overall mark. how many coaches do you think lose more games in the early going with 2, 3, sometimes 4 cupcakes front-loaded vs. the conference schedule. That's also a record starting with a team coming off a 1-10 season.

And where in the world did any of you get the idea that Cal was gonna be shi**y this season???
