Football FAU thoughts / stats

FAU (1-1), Lost to #11 Texas, Beat UAB.

ESPN - Florida Atlantic Owls vs. Texas Longhorns Box Score, August 30 2008 - NCAA College Football
ESPN - UAB Blazers vs. Florida Atlantic Owls Box Score, September 6 2008 - NCAA College Football

On paper anyways, it seems FAU is not a very good rushing team and relies heavily on the passing game to get the job done. With our weaker backfield they may turn a few BTPs like EMU did today. This Saturday's game could end up being a shootout...

Well, Rusty Smith's a really good quarterback, and his receiving core is also pretty good.

It'll come down to line play - FAU's line, although undersized, is pretty experienced. If we give Smith time in the pocket, he will tear us apart.

FAU will probably tear the D apart, but their defense looks terrible right now. We should be able to move the ball very easily. I hope the game resembles the BGSU game from last year more than the Northwestern game.

MSU 35, FAU 24.

I'm still very, very worried about our safeties. How many slant routes went off receivers fingertips at Cal? If their QB was more accurate it would have been a blowout.

Even in the Eastern game Rucker got beat a few times. Seemed like every time EMU wanted to go deep, they had a step on our coverage. When B10 play begins, with more accurate QBs, this will be a problem.

We need to get pressure on the QB. Most QBs will look average to bad if you get enough pressure on them, it's as simple as that.

This is going to be a game that we shouldn't blow off, but I'm not too worried about it. FAU will give our defense a final test before the ND game, but I think our defense will probably prove better than their offense. From what I've seen, their defense isn't too hot, so we SHOULD be able to move the ball down the field pretty well. I'm looking forward to a good game.

One thing's for sure...FAU certainly has a much more effective offense than Notre Dame. . Can you believe that? Florida friggin' Atlantic, a school that only started its football program seven years ago!--has a much better offense than Notre Dame. Of course, ND does have the "schematic advantage". .

FAU is a better team than Notre Dame. FAU has no defense, but has a helluva passing game. ND has nothing on either side of the ball. I'm FAR more concerned for this upcoming Saturday than the following one.

It's sad that our defense is going to get a bigger challenge from Florida Atlantic than it will from ND

Fair enough. After reading the articles posted in the original post, I can see that they will be a worthy opponent. I'm still not too horribly concerned about losing the game, but I am definitely hoping that the team doesn't take it lightly.

Line Play

I hope MD takes the same approach to this game as he did to EMU.

Run, Run, Run...

Keep Rusty off the field by running Javon 30-40 times.

D-Line: has to get pressure, if not Rusty will keep them in the game.

This game has 2003 La Tech written all over it.

It is incumbent upon the lines to do their job.

Either ESPN or ESPN2.

In other words, it sounds like we're getting the Saturday Morning Show with Pam Ward.

i REALLY want to see johnny adams get more time at corner

he had one BONEHEADED pass interference penalty, but that was a smart penalty to take....he had gotten beat, and avoided giving up a really big play. other than that he looked really good out there.

ware looked AWFUL, but he did have one good stop against the run....

against FAU, is it REALLY advantageous to use Fortner over Hyde or even Trawick? i know the other was planning on redshirting...but come ON!
