I'm obsessed with UofM - do you think they will dip below 100K at a home game this year?
Yesterday's attendance at the Big Library was the lowest in 10 years.
Is there a chance their (self) vaunted streak of games with 100,000 plus could end this year?
FWIW, my vote is YES. Their next three games are @ND, vs. Wisconsin, and vs. Illinois. I'm guessing they lose all three in ugly fashion and then dip below 100K for their following game - Toledo.

Sounds like they need to call the "maize rage".

I doubt paid attendance will ever dip below 100k. I bet UM would buy enough tickets to get it up to 100k just to keep their streak alive until DickRod fields his national championship team next year.

How is attendance counted - by tickets sold or butts in the seats?
I'd guess they've probably sold enough tickets to have over 100k but probably a good chance less will actually show up.

No I think this will be a great year for the visiting teams to get some tix at the big dump for fairly cheap. ND travels well, we travel well, as does UW and you have to think that Illinios will also due to recent success. So even if they arent UM fans they will sell out!
And Toledo is only 35 minutes down the road.

It never will.
Unless of course a couple bad seasons come around.
There have been many games though, that 100,000 people didn't show up to. Most recently was Northwestern in 2006. It was very cold, and very rainy. By halftime there were maybe 50,000 people in the stands. (i was there don't ask)

If it's counted by paid tickets, no way.
If it's by actual attendance, possible.
Family of one of our tailgaters are CHumP fans with kids who are attending the school, said the construction is causing rediculous issues getting into/around the place. One 30+ yr season ticket holder even said "I won't be going back to that damn mess again this year."

It wouldn't surprise me if they dipped below 100k, but I doubt they will. We'll probably see a pattern for the rest of the season: lose a game that they should have won, stadium attendance drops for the next game. Come back out and squeak away with a narrow win over an opponent they should have buried, stadium attendance climbs back up to near-normal levels for the next week's game. Hard to say, though. This might be a good year for anyone from visiting schools looking to score tickets at the Big House.

I think you could see umaa fans reduce in numbers with their tickets being bought up by visiting fans.
In a few years, michigan stadium gamedays will be similar to Northwestern gamedays where visiting fans make up a big percentage of the total attendance.

Don Canham started counting every butt in the stadium: All the players, the coaches, the game officials, the visiting team's mascot, etc.
So if that was the way they continued to count, they very well might drop under 100k for the Toledo game with a few more stink-ups between now and then.
But they will probably just make sure to use paid attendance at that point to keep their official streak alive.

It's actually # of tickets sold + number of people who didn't pay, so press, players officials, etc.
So this year the attendance won't fall below 105,000.

I believe yesterday's was around 106,000, and they haven't come close to hitting rock bottom for the season.

FTR, it all depends on the weather. If either ILL or Toledo have hurricane katrina, watch the bottom drop out!
