Tennis Courts
Since when did it become illegal to play loud music at the tennis courts this season. We were tailigating in the tennis courst and my brother received a $500 fine for loud music, eventhough, the DJ in the area was much louder. The E.L. officer's excuse was that the DJ had a permit to play loud music where we did not.
The E.L. police are over stepping there authority. No where in the tailigating rules does it say anything about loud music. Screw ELPD. It is know wonder they cause riots time and time again.

At first the officer came over and said the music may be a little, loud. The LT for ELPDE came over and asked her if the volume of our music woudl be ok, and she stated it was fine and not to worry about the other officer. The other officer then came over again and wrotw a ticket because he did not care what he LT though we are to listen to him about the noise level of our music.
He is probably an LCC grad and unhappy he could not get into MSU.

I received the ticket yesterday. Here is the story. I received a ticket for amplified music and got a misdemeanor for it, which is B.S. I have two MTX Floor speakers that I hook up through my truck along with my truck system. Everything was completely ran off my truck and yes it is amplified, but isnt all music coming through car speakers technically amplified. Well, we pretty much had our own secluded spot at the tennis courts and can barely hear that stupid DJ anyways. My Music was playing for about an hour and once things picked up, the cops came over and said that I had to turn my floor speakers off, but I could keep my truck speakers and my subs running. I did what they said and turned them off. Then another set of cops came over and I asked them about this rule and they said that I could have them on and that the LT would have to come over and tell me to turn them off. They said that I was far enough away from the DJ that it didnt matter and that I was disturbing anyone. So I turned them back on and had them at a decent level, but nothing to make a fuss about. About an hour later the orginal set of pigs came back and yelled at me. I told him that the other cops said I was fine, but he didnt give a ****. So I got a ticket for the amplified music, but i asked him to explain where this rule was because it is not on the ASMSU Tailgate website. I also asked him to define amplified music for me and he couldnt give me a straight answer. He said that I have to have a permit for it. While this was all going down you could clearly hear subs/loud music coming from others tailgaters. Anyways I hate the ego-trip these pigs get and how much they love to abuse their power. They started carding my friends left and right, which sucked because I had about 100 people with me, it was really annoying and most people there were of age and not being idiots. This just makes me mad and YES i am fighting this ticket

The ELPD are a bunch of babysitters. I would fight the ticket as well. There is a reason why every single person to go through MSU complains about the police.
I am going to assume that the guy with the MSU PD friend is a total tool. His buddy must have a great time handing out MIP's and noise violations. Great police work.

Sorry to hear that........should be interesting to see what goes down at the Notre Dame game. I expect it to be packed, and with a 3:30 kickoff it could get crazy. Hopefully the cops stay away

Were you over by the big pine trees? If that was you, my buddies and I were in the truck behind you wondering what the heck was going on because we saw the cop pull out his ticket book. Your music was not loud at all. We thought it must have been for MIP.

wow great a assumption, I went to high school with him, and after graduating from GVSU he got a job as an MSU cop, because he wanted to stay in Michigan and no other police forces were hiring. I'm glad you assume that anyone who is a police officer at MSU is a huge ******* though.
I'm going to assume that you live a meaningless life

Did they check your system with a sound level meter? What is the acceptable decibel level during tailgating? What did the level of your system read out at? I'd be curious to hear in court what numbers they have for this information. Surely they must have SOME kind of solid numbers in order to write you a ticket.

This is why I don't even bother trying to go over there.
It's all so managed and prepackaged now. They can go **** themselves, I'd rather tailgate in my driveway 15 mins away and walk to the stadium.

This is for TWEBMSU. if that police officer handing out the ticket is truly an aquaintance then yes he is a tool, and is probobly compensating for a small d****. If he didn't have his little Nazi outfit on he would get his ass kicked, but because he has a badge so that gives him the power he needs to go on in life. But that explaines everything GVSU.

If he did, then I agree. But don't assume that because I went to high school with a guy who is now on the MSU Police force, that he is on a power trip and that I am tool. I'm not saying that the ticket you got was deserved, because if you look at my first response I said its bull**** and that I would fight it. I don't care who gave you the ticket, I would fight it. All I said was I was gonna ask him what the deal was and if thats how they are operating.
I never said I know the guy that gave the ticket or that you deserved a ticket. Man you jokers are getting all pissed at me, because I know an MSU police officer, and automatically assume he gave the ticket, and that I think you deserved the ticket. Judas you guys are outrageous

First why was it an ELPD cop that issued the ticket and not an MSU cop? Second here is the EL listing of noise/party ordinances. If they hit with a noise violation it is a $250 fine...it sounds like they are trying to hit you with a nuisance party.:
NOISE ORDINANCE: Prohibits noise which may disturb neighbors and is plainly audible on neighboring property at any time of the day or night. Tickets will be issued every one-half hour if the noise continues, and fines may be up to $250 per occurrence.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT ORDINANCE: Prohibits various conduct including resisting arrest or opposing police officer, destroying or meddling with public property, disturbing the peace, and public urination. Consequences include fines, arrest and incarceration.
MINOR IN POSSESSION (MIP) ORDINANCE: It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to consume alcohol. Any person suspected of being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol will be required to show proof of age and may be required to take a breath alcohol test. Violators are subject to citation and/or arrest.
OPEN ALCOHOL ORDINANCE: Prohibits the possession of any alcoholic beverage in an open container or a container with a broken seal in any public place or private area open to the public. Exceptions include licensed liquor establishments or areas approved by ordinance. Anyone stopped for an open alcohol violation can expect to be tested by breath analysis and receive a citation and fine.
FALSE IDENTIFICATION USE ORDINANCE: This prohibits the use of false or misleading oral or written information if the person is detained by the police for the suspected violation of any law. This includes false identification used to purchase liquor and requires liquor establishments to confiscate the suspected false identification and give it to the police. Violators can be cited and/or arrested.
LITTER AND RUBBISH ORDINANCES: Prohibits litter on yard areas, along fence lines, on porches, balconies and steps, and in open accessory garage and shed structures. Tenants can be held accountable by Parking and Code Enforcement staff. Rubbish that is not in proper containers and put out at the right time in the right place will result in enforcement actions. Definitions of litter and rubbish can be obtained from the Parking and Code Enforcement Office at 319-6857.
Don’t party too hearty!
NUISANCE PARTY ORDINANCE: Prohibits a party that disturbs neighbors or that can reasonably be expected to damage, or actually does damage neighboring private property. Occupant is responsible for conduct of guests who create a nuisance. Consequences include fines of $250 or more.
If someone complains about your party, a police officer will check it out. For a noise ordinance violation, you can be ticketed each half-hour after the first citation.
For party litter that is not picked up within 8 hours, Parking and Code Enforcement Officers will issue citations. Costs can range from $175 up to $500 per citation.
It is also important for you to know that stopping the illegal sale and consumption of alcohol is one of the top priorities of local officials. It is illegal to charge for alcoholic beverages or cups at a house party.
There are increasing penalties involved in the violation of all these ordinances. More than one citation will lead to tickets with higher fines.
