The Dantonio is just the lazy journalism aspect you get whenever you're trying to fill out a list of potential job prospects. Dantonio has never come near the SEC and it sounds like he doesn't even really care for South Carolina. Plus, MSU is arguably a much better job than South Carolina anyways. It's really not even worth discussing.
Spurrier to UT on the other hand, I can believe.

Dantonio could leave in the future, but not stepping down to South Carolina, no matter the money. It is a state with a small population with a good talent base for it's size. You have to battle Clemson, Georgia, UNC and Florida for in state players. You also have to battle the likes of Saban, Meyer, Miles, Tuberville, Richt and most likely Fulmer both on the field and in the out of state recruiting ranks. It is a good but not great job, kinda like Iowa, there is a glass ceiling that limits what heights you can reach.

Other Tennessee Names: Tampa Bay Bucs Coach Jon Gruden, Duke Coach David Cutcliffe, ECU Coach Skip Holtz, Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville…
Other South Carolina Names: Michigan State Coach Mark D’Antonio, Former Raiders Coach Lane Kiffin, ECU Coach Skip Holtz, Georgia Southern Coach Chris Hatcher, Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach, Current DC Ellis Johnson (who we think would be the prefect pick)…

Well this illustrates whey rumors are worthless. The idea of Tennessee going after Spurrier who has really not done much at South Carolina seems dumb to me, but who knows what the admin at Tennessee is like.
The talk about Dantonio, who proclaimed himself a "midwestern guy" when this very topic came up, is just as dumb because: A) SC is not a step up, & B) Dantonio's coaching roots/contacts are in MI/OH. At most I could see Dantonio using a SC offer to get a raise, but don't see him leaving.

Oh yeah, and if Dantonio were to ever actually leave, it would be for OSU. That's the one job I'd ever worry about.

Spurrier may have not done much at South Carolina but he did do a lot at an SEC school with a lot of similarities to Tennessee...

he is generally RESPECTED in Tennessee, and mostly LOVED. They just hated to play against him. 90% of the vols fans respect him and are proud that he came from just down the road a piece.
HOWEVER, he would not go to UT. It absolutely will not happen. Bank on it.
ALSO, UT owes phat phil too much money to give him the ax now. He has a built in excuse, and a one year exemption with the young team that he has. Some of the experts here "expected it" to happen. Phat Phil will be back for another 5 years, and then cutcliff will take over.
Enjoy phatboy while you can, the next guy might actually be able to coach!!

If Phat Phil Phulmer returns for another 5 years, how old will Cutcliffe be at that point? 62? He's getting up there himself.
As far as Spurrier to UT, I wouldn't think he'd want to go there, but I never thought I'd see him coach in the same division at UF anyways, so now I think anything is possible.

Dantonio would have to be extremely successful at MSU for OSU to make him their top choice. Look forward to seeing it
Best thing is for Marv Lewis to get canned and Tressel to take the job this year. No way does MD leave MSU after two years.

FYI - Skip Holtz will be reviving his old man's recruiting traditions at ND once they tire of Jabba in South Bend.

By the time Dantonio leave MSU he will be too old to land a top coaching job. (which may mean that he would be perfect for OSU at that time)

GatorBill and PolancoMelon,
I thought the same thing when my friend told me. However, Meyer and his wife have Ohio roots, he has a large picture of Woody Hayes in his office or home, his wife carries a buckeye nut in her purse. When I told my buddy that OSU would have to empty the wallet to get UM, he said "don't worry, money is not a concern in Columbus."

There is no way on God's green earth that Steve Spurrier will coach the Vols.
Both my parents are alumni of UT...I grew up watching the Vols with my dad every saturday.
I don't see any scenario where the fanbase would accept Spurrier as their coach.
He WAS the one who said "You can't spell Citrus without UT" and there has just been a general hatred from most fans.
I know my Dad despises the man...The only two men I know he dislikes THAT much...Steve Spurrier and George Pataki(former Gov. of NY)
