If Dantonio wins at least 8 this year, MSU better be ready to pony up some cash...he is lagging in BT salaries and IMHO, he is doing a lot with a little with what he has. If MSU is ever going to become a "destination" job, it must pay coaches well and provide incentives in contracts that demonstrate that we will pay top dog money for a top dog program....if we win a Rose Bowl or a National Championship, we will have the donor money to have one of the highest paid coaches in the country...why not have that incentive in his contract?

We know he does. I am a Gator fan, I am very familiar with his roots. I'm sure they think they have a great shot to get him, much as we Gator fans assumed we'd have no problem luring Bob Stoops away from Oklahoma, or Michigan fans thought they could with Les Miles.
If Les Miles wouldn't leave the SEC to go to his alma mater, I'm not sure why Urban Meyer would be any more likely to go do the same.

Why the hell anyone would ever want to be HC at South Carolina is beyond me. It has no tradition. In the last 40 years they have like 4 8-win seasons and one 10-win season. Wait, that almost sounds familiar. Anyway, South Carolina's basic claim to fame is George Rogers, and even he couldn't help get them above 8 wins a season. That program has been no where and is going no where.

I have been here for 2 years now, and while I have not met EVERY ut fan, I have met a ton of them. I do not know of ANY of them that would not take tVisor as their coach if he could get them back to the NC game.
But, if he failed, it would be his worst nightmare. It would be the ugliest thing you have ever seen. John tL was a hero here compared to what that would be like.
But initially, everyone I know here would consider it an upgrade. It just aint gonna happen.

Let's also not forget that Dantonio also stayed at MSU after $aban sent the jet up to East Lansing to pick up any MSU staffers that wanted to join him down in Baton Rouge, LA. That had to be an awfully enticing offer, but instead he decided to stay...that is pretty telling IMO.
Further proof that perhaps Dantonio is not an SEC man. I agree with most of you that our threat to lose MD would be tOSU and not SCarolina.

I am completely on board with this response.
tVisor JR will replace Meyer.

Fair enough. I will readily admit seeing as I'm a Spartan now..I don't pay as much attention..so I guess the mindset could have changed. Hell the last time I was actively following the Vols, the program was in much better shape.
You live in Tennessee, So I'm going to assume you have a much better idea than I do.
Just thinking about Spurrier walking the sidelines at Neyland makes me want to throw up in my mouth however. He is a GREAT football coach. But I cannot turn my back on hatred I GREW UP with. I've hated the man since I was 6!

What is the history of Big Ten head coaches leaving to become coaches at other Big Ten schools?
It would seem that would be rare and would lead to some pretty hard feelings.

They are pretty weak if I remember. If he wins a national championship with all the incentives he has built in, I think he would earn about 2/3 of what Kirk Ferentz and D-Rod make.

man, what are you, Perle$$$/$$$aban's agent?
Here we go again with "once the coach accomplishes anything more than mid-level mediocrity, he must immediately get a massive new contract."
Dantonio is doing OK so far, but MSU doesn't need to stampede out and rip up his contract the second he goes 8-5. What if they did that with JLS, dumped a Jabba-like contract in his lap when he went 8-5 his first season? We'd still be stuck with him.
They should discuss a nominal boost (he will move up the food chain when Tiller, and within a couple years, Paterno, go).
If he starts taking us to BCS bowls, then yes by all means, give him a nice new contract.

If he wins a national title, they will immediately re-negotiate his contract and he will make bank. Don't worry about it.

Really glad Schultz doesn't cover MSU anymore.
I'm sure the admin will reward the guy as he produces, MSU just has to match any other offers to keep Dantonio, he's where he wants to be.

I could not stand to see him coaching for ut either. It would be a rather ugly scene in my household. Very ugly. But only because I hate ut football with a passion.
I understand why non Florida fans hate tVisor, but aside from the fact that he is a Gator, I have also seen other sides of him that others probably never will. But I certainly will not try to change your mind, you have your right to feel that way.
I think he will retire soon. Probably after his contract is up, but maybe earlier. He is not in this for the money (anymore ) he has all of the things he needs in life. He is in it because it is in his blood. I just think it wont be long before the lure of the golf clubs outweighs the hectic life he has been living. Just my guess.

This isn't going to happen.
Neither is Spurrier to UT. ( )
Neither is Urban to O$U.
Tressel to coach the Bungles would be ****ing hilarious though. I'm all for it.

Okay, let me get this straight.
According to the first page of the board today, October 2, 2008, we have Javon Ringer winning the Heisman, Mark Dantonio in the running for coach of the year, and Mark Dantonio leaving MSU for SC.

Cue up Hondo for more breaking news.....
