I am sure his IT department just monitored his internet usage, saw this as an example (and hence wanted to be removed from being mentioned), and mentioned to BP he is no longer employed there.
I will admit, they do go overboard. Yet I highly doubt this is what did in Trey (despite my thread title).

I've had several friends get into some hot water over things like this, so I know how it works. I personally had a friend send me porn to a work email as a joke, and I immediately ran to the IT people and told them what happened, to which they filled me in on quite a bit of this stuff too. Basically, they probably were tracking his internet usage, as most companies do, but unless he was going overboard, that's rarely what brings down a hammer like this. But the minute pornographic stuff gets involved, all bets are off. One story relayed to me was that an intern went to a porn site and within like 2-3 hours his computer was confiscated from his cubicle and he was removed too.
Not to say that the guy was a model employee and these people ruined his storybook life, but they absolutely crossed the line.

Well, they didn't send him pictures of porn. They signed him up for websites and spam. Over the line, sure, that can be considered. Yet none of that got him fired, otherwise his work would have seen the BP site and said "oh, it's not his fault."
edit: Fixed my initial post. It seems I made it seem like they sent porn to his work email. They simply signed him up, which is spam.

Did you read the whole thread, or do you really think this got him fired?

If this is true, this is absolutely BEYOND bush league and unacceptable.
....and I'm sorry, but gHost maybe you can fill me in, but couldn't this dude possible sue buckeye planet if the admin did indeed do this, and it wasn't the work of stalker-posters?
Look, I'm all for flaming and bans, but in all seriously, there isn't a single poster on this board that I'd even think about trying to screw over in real life.

For what? I don't think there's any guarantee of privacy when you "join" a privately owned internet message board. IF I was truly interested I would read the terms of use, but unfortunately I'm not that interested.... I do find the story somewhat fascinating.
What's the lesson to be learned here? DON'T POST FROM WORK. The last time I posted on the RCMB from my office was way back in 2001 before I went to law school. I would never, ever, post from work - Actually, that's not true, I've posted from work before using my iPhone, but I would never use the company computer to even look at the RCMB or post on it -

I control the interwebs at work, so no one knows what I am doing!

Dude, yoour a lawyer, why not "harrassment, pain & suffering, Defamation," etc.
.....and won't the TOC have to state something like "your e-mail address is not private, we'll sell it or post it" etc etc?
I mean, hell this exact same thing happened to me back in 2004, but luckly other than some wacko contacting my parents, it didn't ruin my life like this poor bastard.
And as for posting from work, I'm all for it. I guess my thought process is ban this site if you don't want me visiting it. But doing so, would mean I'm no longer interested in working for your company--judge me by my results, not my internet usage. Of course w/ that said, I barely get the time to post here during the day anymore.
