Interweb trolling can get you fired
Just ask Trey McNeil, the official bitch of BuckeyePlanet.
Trey McNeil BP
The link is to the recent news in the thread, but the whole thread is classic. The recent news is even more so.
In case you don't want to read the whole thing....
1) SEC guy talks smack on OSU board
2) Idiot uses his real email account
3) BP members find out who he is, where he works, etc. Signs him up for beastality porn, gay porn, etc. Signed up some for his work.
4) BP members work hard to get the thread as the top of the search in Google, Yahoo, etc. for the term "Trey McNeil."
5) His work contacts BP to ask all references to them removed from said thread, and that Trey has since been fired due to his trolling at work.

Hasn't something similar happened on this board on several occasions? Didn't people recently contact a poster's employer because they didn't agree with him on MSU sports issues?

Well, if you really think this is what did it you are a little naive. Misuse of company computers and time is what did it. Even then, I never knew anyone that got fired for misuse of the internet that weren't on the chopping block anyway. It was just a reason.
I am sure his IT department just monitored his internet usage, saw this as an example (and hence wanted to be removed from being mentioned), and mentioned to BP he is no longer employed there.
I will admit, they do go overboard. Yet I highly doubt this is what did in Trey (despite my thread title).

Yes. One of the bigger posters on this board has made it a point to put up another poster's personal information here. Victim isn't exactly super popular here, but that was way over the line.

I just can't believe it was the Admin that posted his e-mail address. Can you imagine Trevor doing that? And reading that board makes be further believe the decision not to have avatars is a good one.

Maybe I'm just splitting hairs here but doesn't make more sense that he was fired for surfing the internet on company time and not specifically "trolling" on a message board?

Yeah, I took liberties with the thread title. Didn't know people would go ape**** over it.
The guy was fired for misuse of company time and improper internet use. You will also see that he made further contacts with BP including a fake lawyer letter.
Sorry guys. I retract. Trolling will not get you fired. Being an idiot will.
Certainly putting his email out there can be considered wrong, but signing up on random internet sites causes that same thing all the time.
Oh well, back to your regularly scheduled deluded rants.

In all likelihood either:
1. this guy was a marginal performer and they used this as a reason to ax him.
2. the guy had a history of doing this and had been warned before and therefore was a repeat offender.
3. the company went and check the web logs and found that this guy was spending a tremendous amount of time surfing the web and very little time working. Lots of companies have web tracking software in place but do not regularly review the logs unless there is another issue that comes up (sub-par performance, complaint from another employee, etc.) that warrants spending the time to do so.
I doubt that his participation in that thread was the sole reason they got rid of him. It was just the straw that brought the whole thing down.
