Off-topic Dr./Medical Recommendations in DeWitt/Lansing

So I'm wanting to get my shoulder checked out because of pain and limited range of motion for about 3 weeks now. Originally thought I just tweaked something throwing a softball, but now I think it's something more.

I haven't been to a doctor in about 5 years (excluding annual physicals for work that they pay for and schedule). Because of the long delay, my doctor is no longer my doctor as I would be considered a new patient and they are not accepting new patients. So I'm starting fresh and trying to figure out what to do...

Should I go to a family doctor first? If so, any good recommendations in the Lansing or Dewitt area?

Should I skip the doctor and try to go straight to a specialist? I have BlueCross/Blue shield and they said I would not need a referral for a specialist.

Go to Sparrow ER and see what they say?

For anyone that has experience with this stuff, what is the most efficient and cheap way of getting this diagnosed?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd avoid the ER and urgent care. You might consider MSU Sports Med clinic. Who is your family doc, if you don't mind saying?

I go to the Mid Michigan Physicians office out by eastwood towncenter.

My experiences have been good. They have quality doctors and staff. I never have to wait very long. And if they need to do any testing (imaging, x-rays, cat scans, draw blood, ect..) its all done within the building. So you don't have to drive all over to different appointments.

They also have surgeons in the building so if they give you a referral for anything you just walk right down the hall.

I can give a personal recommendation for Herb Ross who used to be the MSU athletic orthopod....and is still active...he reconstructed my shoulder and the results are nothing short of amazing....he practices in the Genesys medical complex off Jolly Rd, just we of 127.

Don't go to the ER - it's for emergencies and since you don't have one, you will wait forever. Set up an appointment with a family or internal med doc. Sorry I can't recommend one in your area.

3 other doctors in the office, I think several are taking new patients (been with the Dr since 1975), Mid Michigan Physicians doctors.

Just off 127 past Wood Rd. Hoisington is a big MSU fan, his old office had his personal office with a green rug and a white spartan symbol.

I have had a bum shoulder for a while now, went to my doctor's office and he didn't do jack about it. Complained on this board that I hated how long he kept me waiting and got crucified... post at your own risk.

Shake it off. Usually these injuries are because you are not going heavy enough in they gym. Using really poor form is another reason stuff like this flares up. You should workout with 20 pounds heavier then your normal max and hyperextend your lowback and put as much strain on your shoulders as possible. It's the only way to get them to adapt and heal.
