Tailgating

My wife and I are taking our RV and about 15-20 people to tailgate this weekend. We are planning on just parking in the commuter lot so that everyone can park for free and make their way over easily. Does anyone know what time the commuter lot opens or what time people start showing up??

Thanks in advance!

The lots open 5 hours before kickoff, but I see vehicles in the commuter before that.

The Commuter Lot, and all other lots, open at 7:00 a.m. for a noon game.

I don't park there, so I have no first hand knowledge. Having said that, I am confident some folks will be in line at 7. But, I am also confident, there won't be any shortage of parking spaces even by 11.

Parked there for the scUM game at the far West end. No line at all at 7am. You should be good to go.

speaking of tailgating, I was tailgating in a lot near Old Hort for the CMU game...lots of cars, but not a lot that required a parking pass...I assume it was a pay lot, but alcohol was allowed....didn't know they had these lots that don't require a pass on campus....anyone know about these lots and are there others???...I assume you have to show up pretty early.

Map on page 2 shows you which lots are public and which require a pass

Here's the map of the donar/pass lots (scroll to bottom)

All other lots are public lots and yes you have to pay unless you pull something like parking overnight, and all except Munn allow alcohol

All lots that aren't donor lots are public, I've never heard of an exception to this. Some metered spaces might be blocked off the night before by the university, but I've never heard of that happening for a whole lot.

You can drink anywhere on campus on gameday minus Munn Field.

Are there any lots north of the Red Cedar that are public?

We used to always park in lot X but that is now donor. What is my best bet?

very little is legal at tailgates...I was at a tailgate on Saturday that had a keg..legal? no...but not hard to get away with......steal my blanket at the MSU Bookstore?....apparently that's not too hard either ....the campus is now a lawless society
