Off-topic H1N1 Flu shot question

My boy's school is giving out free H1N1 shots. Not too sure if we should have him get one. Kinda nervous. He very rarely gets sick and I am having trouble getting over the fact that this shot will get him sick teporarily. Please give me some advice. He is 12.

I would do it.

Got an email earlier tonight from my kids school district. H1N1 is running rampant thru the district, they are giving free shots on Saturday, we will be there.

Obviously you should do it, and no he won't get sick. Its the same as the regular flu shot, dead flu cells. But the again, obviously you shouldn't be asking tRCMB for advice on your son's health.

Jesus Christ, give it up. You have zero medical knowledge whatsoever and should be in no position to give advice.

There has been no conclusive link between thimersol and autism. The US began phasing out thimersol in 1999 and autism rates continue to rise.

In this case, his son is in a high risk category. I would consult with his pediatrician first, but would get it. Risks < Benefits.

You have more mercury in a single filled tooth (which continues to leach into your body for your whole life. But don't take the shot-- scientists call that "natural selection".

5th group - everyone 25-64 with medical conditions putting them at risk (chronic lung disease, including asthma, immune suppression, other chronic illness)
6th group - everyone else 25-64 and people 65 and older. This group has been shown to have the lowest risk for H1N1 so far.

OP - there are small but noisy group of folks on the internet who have become preoccupied with an ever growing list of conspiracies, all centered around the idea that some global (possibly reptilian) overlords are controlling our lives and are hell bent on world domination and destruction. Such conspiracies include:

9/11 being an inside job
Vaccines are part of a mass murder plot
The Tsunami was deliberate
Global warming is a hoax to give these folks control
Our minds are controlled by microwave ovens

These folks have oddly been fairly successful in propagating their foil hat fear-mongering, and before you know it the likes of hexydes and sasquatch above have been sucked under Alex Jones' illuminati duvet and butt****ed with crazy stories until their brains and anuses bleed.

There is absolutely no credible evidence connecting such vaccines to autism, cancer, or any other condition these types choose to move their stories to from week to week. As such, laugh at these people, walk away, and continue to protect your family with the wonders of modern medicine .

The vaccine is full of microchips so that Obama can control your brain.

Then follow the hype and run out and get it. I personally am using common sense, as I rarely get sick, know that H1N1 is about as deadly as the common flu (as in, NOT deadly on the large scale), and don't care to get vaccines rushed into production.

But again, knock yourself out. In fact, feel free to take two, you can have mine.

I say no. It's a soft kill weapon. The person who mention a cancer time bomb is right. The shots contain mercury, squalene and both the UK and CDC have told docs to be on the lookout for Guillan-Barre syndrome in folks who have taken the vaccine.

Here's the debate in Wells, with link pro and anti-vaccine.

http://www.spartantailgate.com/forum...paganda-3.html

Here is the story fo a young lady in D.C. who got the shot and is now suffering from dystonia.

A One-in-a-Million Shot | NBC Washington

Quote:
Desiree Jennings thought it would be a good idea to get the seasonal flu shot. Her job offered incentives for it, and she didn't want to get sick.

Ten days after she got the shot at a Reston Safeway, she did get sick.

"I got flu-like symptoms -- nausea, vomiting, body aches, fever -- then was lethargic for a week and started blacking out," said Jennings, an AOL employee and Washington Redskins ambassador hoping to one day be a cheerleader for the team, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reported.

Doctors couldn't figure out why her ability to speak and walk were so adversely affected. She saw neurologists, physical therapists and psychologists.

"I was hoping for Lyme, praying for lupus, even Graves' disease," she said. "Unfortunately they were all ruled out."

Finally, doctors at Johns Hopkins figured it out, diagnosing dystonia, a rare neurological condition with no cure brought on by infections, brain trauma or, as is believed in her case, reaction to medication. It causes body jerks and abnormal or repetitive movements.

"A simple conversation with two people -- you and I could converse on the couch, and if the phone were to ring it would send her into a violent convulsion," said her husband, Brendan Jennings.

Strangely enough -- as she can't walk forward five feet without stumbling -- with some effort, she can perform one of her life's passions: running. And she walks backward with ease -- oddly empowering, now. After her ordeal began, "My insurance wasn't going to pay for another hospital visit. Matter of fact, they called us as we were driving to Johns Hopkins not to offer a specialist but instead to offer a hospital bed and a wheelchair for our house. I told them I wanted to know what was happening to me and that I didn't want to be in a wheelchair."

Her reaction is one in a million, doctors said.

"I would've much rather won the lottery and bought that ticket instead of gotten the flu shot if I knew that risk existed," she said.
IMO, taking the shot is like playing the lottery. You can't "win" unless you play.

No...but I am exposed to aircraft that are traveling all over the world on a daily basis.

PS I am pretty sure I had the swine flu last year, that or I had one hell of a flu/food poisoning attack at the same time...That was an ugly few days.

I'm required to have it. I face a fine and termination of employment if I don't.

You understand that squalene is a completely natural substrate found in your body during the production of cholesterol right? As in, you don't make cholesterol without it?

Saw an article a few weeks back suggesting increased rates of Guillan-Barre Syndrome with the H1N1 as compared with other immunizations. Someone more in the know might be able to say more about it; whether or not this was occurring while they were still recommending two doses of the vaccine or any other details.

Safe to say that I will probably not be immunized. I qualify as Group 4 based on the list someone posted above. I'm running a bit of a risk since there have been substantial numbers of H1N1 cases at UIllinois and I teach 60+ students a week that see thousands of their peers throughout the day. If I do happen to get sick, I'll probably just end up holing up in my apartment and keeping tabs on what my lungs are doing. I figure there are folks out there who need the vaccine more than I do.

As always, you are not using common sense. You have a baby at home. Drop the ego and the ideology, and protect your family. Dead babies are not fun. Talk to your pediatrician.

It's scary. Some lady already got cancer from the vaccine, it's been confirmed. Wait a couple minutes and I'll try to find the article, but I want to go out and have a smoke first.

And don't let them fool you that the mist is safer. It contains the live H1N1 virus.

Quote:
Ashley Quigley, who is due to give birth in a few weeks, said she can’t get the mist because she is pregnant. The same applies for children under 2, adults who are 50 and older and people between 2 and 49 with health problems.
H1N1 mist vs. shot: Which is right for you? :: WRAL.com

Why it's OK to give the live virus to school kids but not kids under two is beyond me, especially considering how much contact kids have with one another at school.

It be like giving everyone at the Playboy mansion a syphilis rubdown before the orgy starts.
