I know rankings don't mean much, but for those of us that do not follow recruiting too much, how does Payne's ratings compare to Roe's when he picked State?
Roe was #7 when he committed i think...Payne has been as high as 10...needless to say it would be freaking awesome to pair those two in the same frontcourt

Yea, something like that. I think Roe was as high as 4 or 5 at some point in his junior year. I know Payne dropped some over the summer due to inconsistency (see my previous post), but i do remember reading something along the lines that when he did put it all together for stretches he was the most dominant player on the floor (and this was during the elite camps).
So needless to say, I would be PUMPED if he joined the G&W.
I know someone was previously talking about his involvement with the Dayton basketball team. Not that he would go there but that he was a BW3's with them and talks with them regularly. Is it possible that Brian Gregory, realizing he wont get him, may be helping try to push him our direction?

Not a comparison but for those who don't know much about who is being talked about:

Let me hold on to that
“Well, Paul, hold on a second,” said. “Because the look I saw on Michigan’s faces were ‘oh, no, the Spartans beat us again.’ That’s the look I saw.”

Yes.
Izzo also helps Gregory.

If we can trick Coach Krzyzewski into saying his own name backwards, perhaps he will be pushed back to the fifth dimension.
I would not get too excited. He is keeping his cards close to the vest and it seems (the Jamil Wilson thing still haunts me) that is never a good thing for MSU. Comp posted something like this (observation, not a prediction) on the Mag, and I agree with him.
I actually have a pretty good feeling about that aspect of it.
We'll see.

As it has been said, Roe was rated higher. But it's not like Payne is a slouch. He's the the 4th rated Center in his class and 20th overall. He's 6'10"... with freakish athleticism. He can run the full length of the floor, he can fly, he has really long arms. He basically has a distinct physical advantage over normal college players. The thing everyone says is that "he has to put it all together." Which probably means he needs to polish his offensive skill set... something that will come with time and experience. Something that will help him is he's considered already very good defensively and he's a very good shot blocker already, so that will help him find minutes anywhere.
He's pretty much good enough that he's been tossed around as a "one and done" type of talent.
While we cannot know for sure that he is coming.....Payne would be a great pick up and the only reason he really wouldn't come here would be $$$. He really doesn't have that ability to start at Kentucky and WVU presents a national press issue. While doesn't get the national press he should, he makes national press for us.
Thinking of Roe and Payne up front with Nix, Sherm and Gauna mixed in too, that is one nice front court with not only size but athleticism. Throw in Appling, Byrd and bringing back hopefully everyone we can (Kalin, Summers and Allen) and having DayDay and Korie there, we should be pretty unstoppable next year. Izzo is building an arsenal for the upcoming years, I can't wait to see who is next.
if you really think about it, we are more established than either of those programs - right now
I'm not sure of it but I would be that our facilities make wvu look like a 3rd world country
and if he really wants to polish his skills, who better than izzo? calipari throws some athletes on the floor and has an offensive scheme but he is not izzo.

Can anyone comment on how reliable the two aforementioned blogs are:
Best of the Best Prep Scouting & Bluegrass State B Ball?
Am I the only one who thinks that these look eerily similar to one another, in terms of quoting "anon sources"? I wouldn't put it past a blog to rip off info from another blog. Then again, this is the Interwebz where the truth is worshipped....
