The Coyotes beat the Canuck? I don't really follow hockey.

TTINLW (this thread is no longer worthless):
I sure hope she didn't go out on her solo hike dressed like that (and carrying such heavy gear).

Wow. Coyotes are like, what, 50 lbs? It would take about 8 of them to even scare me. And I'm not really a tough guy, but come on....this chick must have weighed 80 lbs. Eat some potatoes honey.
Totally going to Hell for this post. Then again I really don't care about folk music.
RIP
There, I feel better.

You do realize that someone just died, right? Someone that was, perhaps, a daughter, friend, sister, girlfriend to others...hope all ends well for you and yours.

Wikipedia says that northern coyotes are larger, and can get up to 74 lbs.

She was probably trying to communicate with nature and talk to them when they attacked thinking she was a dieing animal.

Deadly interactions between humans and predators in North America seem to have increased in frequency the past 15 years to 20 years. I never would have expected a coyote to add to this. In my opinion it is another example of what happens when predators lose their fear of humans. I still wonder how much longer the people of California will tolerate "abducted jogger reports" from the foothills around their major cities. They may want to rethink their mountian lion management plan. Any predator management that doesn't include some leathal controls will lead to more sad stories like this. Is doesn't take much to bring the fear back.

I thought so too. Until I knew someone who had a large Akita that went after a coyote. The coyote ripped it to smitherines. They're a pretty nasty beast - don't underestimate them.

agreed! wild animal tenacity will win out against cuddly soft domesticated animal tenacity more times than not.

Hmmm, Totally clueless person hiking in 'nice' wilderness area - what could possibly happen?
Something like this COULD happen in Michigan. We've got black bears and puma in this state (both upper and lower). Anyone hiking up north should at the minimum be aware of what to do when you run into one of these (look it up on the internets).
Well, at least the bear. If you run into a puma, you won't know it's around until it's on your back and biting your neck to kill you.
Have a nice hike!

absolutely it could..
I was running on a trail last winter.. it was about 5:00 am and I saw what was clearly a cat of some sort dart across in front of me.. it ran over into a field..
when I looked in his direction, the head lamp that I was wear illuminated it's eyes and all I could see was this yellowish-orange glow looking back at me..
I'm not a wildlife expert, but it was NOT a stray house cat..
I work with a guy that's a big hunter.. I gave him as good of a description as I could and he figures it was probably a grey fox... however, he said that there are plenty of coyotes around here.. even in mid-Michigan.

My two labs have chased coyotes out of my backyard numerous times...usually its just one and I'd guess it weighs around 40 pounds but its concerning considering they usually travel in packs.
I've been more careful lately letting them outside after I have a chance to check the yard - thankfully so far most around me are pretty skiddish and take off as soon as they hear/see people.

Good Lord, no kidding. I think everyone in here just needs to take a moment to paws and reflect before trying to make a joke out of everything.

Are they sure it was a coyote? Maybe it was a dingo.
