Could next year be Izzo's most talented team ever?
I realize Raymar is a big loss...but (assuming Dahlman doesn't have a breakout year) losing just one player in the rotation is much better than what most of college basketball loses in a year.
SR PG Kalin Lucas 4*
JR PG Korie Lucious 4*
FR PG Keith Appling 4*
SR SG Chris Allen 4*
FR SG Russell Byrd 4*
SR SF Durrell Summers 5*
JR SF Draymond Green 4*
JR PF Delvon Roe 5*
SR C Tom Herzog 4*
SO C Derrick Nix 4*
SO C Garrick Sherman 4*
FR C Adreian Payne 5*
(assuming Gauna will redshirt)
If games were played on paper...

This. I hope Raymar wins Big11Ten player of the year so that Lucas decides to come back. I would not expect him to after 2 player of the years, 2 final fours and a national championship

Gauna is the only one I am in the dark on...what's up with that kid?

If MSU (and Kalin) experience success similar to last season, I would assume that it would be in Kalin's best interest to jump.

he's a solid kid. Rivals had a write up a few weeks ago that had a segment on him. Talked about him being a hard worker with better than advertised athleticism. He seems like a bit of a project but I think he'll be a good one.
Just think, if Lucas DOES go pro, that adds a scholarship maybe we scoop up Zeigler!

Supposed to be a pretty solid player. Athletic.

What are the chances that Sherman redshirts? There cant be solid rotation minutes for him this season, and he seems less ready to contribute than Nix.

Izzo said RECENTLY that there would be no redshirts.

How is Appling only a 4*? I don't follow the recruiting rankings but I only know what I've seen. He is the most talented high school guard Izzo has ever recruited. So much more polished then Cleaves, Bell, Taylor, Neitzel, Lucas at the same age. Maybe he'll be 5* by the end of the season. Also, with Payne's commitment, Nix and Sherman could be fighting to keep the redshirt off next year. It will be interesting to see who is most ready to play this season.
As far as next year being the most talented team, let's wait and see who is around and who is healthy. I'm sure a year before the 2001-2002 team we were drooling over having a roster with Richardson, Randolph, Anagonye, Taylor, Hill, Anderson, Torbert, Ballinger, Wolfe. The two best players leave, the PG goes all eyez on me, and Torbert isn't the second coming like everybody thought.

I think Appling is the most gifted offensive player MSU has recruited since Ralph Simpson in 1967 (Simpson also broke the SC scoring record his junior year). I think he is better than Sam Vincent at the same stage. Even in his freshman year I can see him as the antidote to those periods of offensive lethargy we seem to go through occasionally.

Stars mean dick. What counts is performance. And even if you're going on athletic potential, we were pretty loaded in 2000 and 2001. Even in 2005, and let's not forget 2008.
Still, VERY happy. We're in league with the big boys now.

Luckily, Izzo is second to none when it comes to maximizing potential. Sure, you could think of some exceptions. But for every Marquise Gray, there's a Drew Naymick, Travis Walton, Goran Suton, etc. Izzo will not disappoint.

Yes, in fact, I saw him play when he was a sophomore in high school and every game he played at MSU and obviously he was the best player and best recruit in MSU history. Magic was a scorer but Appling is both a shooter and scorer and it was in that narrow sense I meant it. Appling will have to prove he is as good a scorer as guys like Respert, Smith, Skiles and the Vincents (and I saw all but Steve Smith play in high school) on the next level but at a comparable stage in his development he is better. Does that answer your question, Dude?

Draymond was a 3* according to Rivals and Summers was a 4* and Byrd is a 3* currently
Edit: Nevermind, I see you are using Scouts rankings. My bad
