Why is it that....
if a fan is disappointed in their teams performance, tiredof losing, lost interest etc....and wont be attending this weekends game they need to "turn in their Spartan card"...or they are "bandwagon"?
As Spartans we have been the most loyal fanbase in the country with respect to return on investment. We continue to burn our hands on the stove week after week expecting differant results only to see the same movie.
Will I be there? Yes, if only to setup our massive tailgate and see the people who are important to me.
But for those who wont go, refuse to go, have better things to do, why are they less of a Spartan? If we are truly honest with ourselves the product this season has been dog****. Last nights game was simply the crowning jewel on this trainwreck. I can see why people with less obligation, less time, less interest will just say "no thanks" this weekend and spend time at home, with family, etc.
But why do people here just lob that phrase around so often? I really think all the disappointment of the last 40 years has warped our sense of loyalty. at some point people just lose interest when they keep getting their hopes dashed.

They are less of a spartan because they would rather be doing something else than supporting the team on a Saturday in Spartan Stadium.
Pretty simple.

Even if that something else is more redeeming than watching this product?
I'm not trying to start a fight, I just see that phrase posted non stop on here and it makes me laugh. People have better things to do, things that dont anger them, disappoint them, etc.
we are all spartans, as long as our heart is in the right place and we want the same things. I think many are just lemmings who hold themselves to some mythical level of "fandom" and damn all others who either fall short or see the light depending on your view.

So then don't root for them. I don't understand why you constantly search for validation through this board for the decisions you make. If you don't want to go because you don't like the team then don't go.
I think most people that say the things you are talking about feel that the program is heading in the right direction, where as you feel that the program should be judged on a weekly basis. It is just a difference of opinion.
So if you don't like people telling you to turn in your spartan card, do not talk to them about it. They will give their thoughts if you inquire, just as you would say "why are you bothering" if they said they were going to the game.

Hey, I have no problem with those idiots not going to the game. 1. More room for me. 2. Send me their tickets I could always use some. Mike, I wouldn't tell them to turn in their Spartan Card, but for being a whiney little Bitch about those telling them to turn in their Spartan Card, I"m gonna have to ask for your man card................. Bitch.

For me, it's that people overreact, refuse to see any of the progress that has been made, fail to take a comprehensive view of things, and lump the current state of the program in with the states of programs past.
If someone just respectfully says, "I can't do it again next week. I'm going to take some time to myself," then that's very reasonable and I don't think most people would criticize them.
But 99% of the posts are not in that realm.

There's different types of fans that take the games different ways. It's how it is. Some still want to watch even if we suck, I know if MSU loses, I still want to be there. I am a Spartan, and football season goes by fast. Being in EL is great by itself.

No, we are the only school who packs a 70+k stadium and gets nothing in return. People have a very warped sense of what loyalty is. We all care, I just think some people have a thinner patience level.

It's all just a bunch of immediate post-game overreaction. None of us are going to stop cheering for the Spartans, not even the most bipolar members of this board. Don't read too much into it.

For the most part I was using the rhetorical version of "you". I hope that helps. Anyways, I did read your post, and although you may be going, you are still looking for validation of what you believe in. Some people agree, some people don't. Get over it.

you're grasping hard.
I give two ****s what most people on here think.
I asked a fair question, the world is far larger than this board and this discussion is something that interests me.
That is all.

Last year, the following programs had a higher attendance average than MSU:
Clemson
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Nebraska
Auburn
Tennessee
I know you're going to argue the last 3 on that list in terms of historical return with success in each program in the last 15 years, but if you're willing to go back that far, where does one draw the line? MSU football has provided some spectacular times depending on how "historical" one wants to get.
Here's the attendance data: NCAA Football Attendance - NCAA.org
