That is why I hate seeing our fans whine right now. We are better than that. They are not. It is what you expect.
Now available at the M Den, one problem, it keeps falling off the tracks.

Exactly. We Spartans have been through the adversity before many times over. The SCummers have not known real adversity in their flagship football program since Bo took over the reigns 40 years ago. They don't like it and they don't know how to handle it. As much as we love to revel in their misery right now, it shouldn't change our focus on what MSU needs to do with respect to it's own football program. We may be enduring some growing pains right now, but we are moving in the right direction whereas they are imploding. Sucks being them but then...you reap what you sow too.

Every time I would talk with some Michigan fan, I would compare John L Smith with Rodriguez, but I would always add the caveat that Rodriguez was a better coach. But that it might not work the way they think. I've had a V-8 moment that maybe he isn't a better coach than SMith.
While it is just a game there are billions of dollars involved. You, as a coach, at a major BCS school, make millions of dollars a year to win the games on the schedule. This allows your leather faced wife the ability to buy unlimited tanning sessions, hair bleachings, and horrendous outfits.
So, RichRod, who are you crappin'?
Yes, there are millions of dollars involved. This is not about student athletes getting an education and learning to succeed in the face of failure. So then, according to your logic everybody on this board that has bitched about the B11 officiating should shut their piehole and understand that its all about the BCS and the money. Its about time MSU started pulling their weight and bring in some BCS dollars!!!!!!!!
Your statement sums up what is wrong with college football.
This is the difference between Rich Rod and Coach D:
After a loss this year (i think it was CMU) Coach D talked about how bad he felt because of how much work people put into the football program. He talked about how he sees the people cleaning up the stadium seats at SS. He gets it. He knows that it is just a game but he is not stupid enough to say it after they lose. He is too PR smart.
To me it is not just losing but how people respond to it. Coach D owned up to the fact he was outcoached. Rich Rod is way to insecure to own up to that. He is always the first person to throw his Assistant Coach or player under the bus.

I'd also add that he's not the one who should be making that observation. If your kid fails to graduate HS, you don't want to hear the principal saying, "Oh well, the world needs ditch diggers, too."
Serious question, do you guys think the pressure is getting to RR so much that it's making him a bit mentally unstable? I've known a few d1 coaches in my day, and what always strikes me is that they are single minded in their belief that whatever they are doing, and whenever they are doing it, it is the right thing for their program. Not too many I know have the time to feel sorry for themselves. When they start, the end is near. Making a comment like that, to me is more telling than a lot of things he's doing on the sideline. I think this man is starting to feel sorry for himself. YOu do that and you are just not coaching like you should be. This isn't going to end well unless he gets his head out of his ass in a big way quickly. I see him as Brian Kelly's OC at ND next year.

Yes.
I thought the same thing when he broke down at the too much practice presser.
Honestly, there have been warning signs for a while. This isn't the first time he's broken out the "let's all have a little perspective here" line of defense, which usually means a coach -- especially one who's as die-hard as RR -- may be on the brink of a burnout/meltdown.

was talking to our Office Manager today and she was telling me how her father in law is now a former big time donor and supporter of the program w pricey seats, etc etc - but he canceled everything this year and now refuses to watch the games even on tv. Apparently he is not alone and many of the big boosters he knows are fleeing left and right and everyone is making it known they'll be back once DickRod is gone. Pressure is building.
It makes me sad...he won't last much longer I don't think

Hopefully DickRod will stay long enough to pull in more hobbits at scUM so that the new coach is completely screwed when he initially takes over.
Of course if the NCAA finds violations he'll be gone immediately.

Is it what psychologists/psychiatrist call the bargaining/rationalization stage? I agree with you a hundred percent. The perspective line is his way of dealing with what seems to him to be the inevitable...
Not sure why I was listening to the HUGE show last night, but I was - and HUGE basically threw it down that a lot of people don't think DickROd is the right guy for scUM. He said about the only people who still believe in him are the players he recruited, accused the Lloyd Carr players of not supporting him and said the alumni were bailing out on him.

just looking for something to lighten the mood around here. Misery loves company at this point.... I've heard some people say lately though that it's the WAY SCum is losing....actually heard a scummer say the other day : "At least you guys are IN your games to the end. You are COMPETITIVE. We are getting hammered with no relief in sight." He has a point; there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us: I think......SCum?
not so much.....especially with their coach downplaying the importance of it all. Man, I would expect my kids' soccer coach to say something like that...not the coach @ 'M
*****that's funny "monk": huge is a total SCum football slappy: he must be in agony right now.....LOFL

After his crying jags during his press conference earlier this year, I said that the pressure was getting to the guy.
By the way, this isn't the first time D Rod has said this kind of thing. He told fans to get a life last season.
