For this to work, Netflix must start streaming adult films.

"Cool I'll download an HD version of Lord of the Rings"
3 weeks later . . .
"67%?!?!?!? whats taking so long!!"
1 month later . . .
"My TV/computer/harddrive broke . . . where is my movie at? Why cant I download it again?"
Sorry, but I'll take a physical copy anytime over a digital copy. Digital copies give companies WAY too many rights over something you own, its ridiculous.

Aren't netflix, etc. subscription services?
I watch ONE movie a month (if that)... I am not paying a monthly fee for that.

They are also ignoring the fact a good 50% of the country can't get "high speed" internets.

Yeah it's about as tough as me setting my home DVR from work. I have to click my mouse about 5 times.
They will eventually find a way to make loading times faster. Probably a lot like On Demand.
I'd expect it to go about the same path as music. As movie downloading starts to grow, Apple will come out with some sort of iTheater and corner the market. DVD and Blu-Ray will be available for some time in some format or another, but I agree that downloading movies is the way of the future.

Also look for companies like Cisco to benefit. If millions of homes start watching movies through the internet, there will need to be a serious upgrade to infrastructure.

I know a ton of people who still can't get better than dial up without going the satellite route...
STILL...
in 2009...
This may be the wave of the future... but it won't be for another 20 years.

Granted, you can sort of do that now, but it will be much easier.

take it easy, that's not what I meant. I can just see them leading the way because they've led the way in innovation the last few years.

All Apple TV does is pretty much does is let you access iTunes/iPhoto on you're TV.
It's been out for a few years now.
There are Multimedia Computer systems out there, and people are starting build them that can do all that you say. Problem is proprietary cable/SatTV signals are slowing down the advancement...

Don't they sell well over 50% of the music purchased in the US now.
