Congratulations Derek Grant . . . .

Named CCHA Rookie of the Month for October!

Quote:
The CCHA announced today that forward Derek Grant of Michigan State has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for October.

Grant is tied for first in the nation in scoring among rookies with 10 points, including four goals and six assists. His scoring line ties him for second place overall in the CCHA behind teammate Corey Tropp. Grant has also been effective on the Spartan power play with a 3-4--7 line, which ranks second in the conference behind Tropp as well. His 1.25 point-per-game average ranks fourth nationally among rookies who have appeared in more than one game. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound forward began the season on a six-game scoring streak to help MSU claim a 6-2-0 record overall.

Grant was named CCHA Rookie of the Week for Oct. 12 after helping the Spartans sweep Clarkson the opening weekend of the season. He tallied a goal and an assist in his first career game on Oct. 9 and finished with the same totals in the second game. The 19-year old forward followed that performance with two assists in MSU’s Oct. 16 road win at Maine , marking his third straight multiple-point game. Grant added a goal in each game of a series split with No. 1-ranked Miami, Oct. 23-24.

Alaska forward Andy Taranto, Lake Superior forward Domenic Mondardo, Miami forward Curtis McKenzie, Michigan forward Chris Brown, Nebraska-Omaha goaltender John Faulkner, Notre Dame goaltender Mike Johnson and Western Michigan forward Trevor Elias earned special mention for CCHA Rookie of the Month for October.
See Michigan College Hockey - NCAA Hockey, College Hockey News, Power Poll, Shot of the Week: MSU's Grant wins monthly CCHA award

Of course, Comley didn't recruit any talent and is a failed coach. The team is responsible for this award, not the coaches, or, maybe it was just luck, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc . . . .

Congratulations Derek and here's to many, many more similar honors. Now, let's get ready to tame some Mavericks this Thursday and Friday at Munn!

I've been watching college hockey at all levels for the better part of 15 years now, and, honestly, he's one of the most promising freshmen I've seen in some time.

Kid's impressive, not to mention, he had a potent October.

Good for the kid. Without going through the internets how is the Billogoods vs. Bullwrinkle predictions going? Does the team suck or are they good?

They likely aren't a top-four team in the CCHA at season's end, but they're a hell of a lot better than last year's squad and can play beat-for-beat with anybody right now.

Bullwrinkle has shown his colors by pretty much never showing up in these hockey theads so far this season after spamming them for atleast the last year or so. Once he is called out he will probably give some crap about being busy or whatever but for now, he has been proven wrong and his pride matters more to him than the success of the program under Comley.

Sorry dude - I haven't made any of the games yet due to other committments. I will be at both UNO games this weekend. Unlike some other blithering idiot, I'll actually watch the games and then comment on what I see.

As for Grant - sounds like he is a real player. Does this mean we give Comley another contract extension for getting back to doing what he is paid to do....recruit talented players who can excel in our program? What next, does he get a raise for figuring out how to change lines on the fly?

Bold. In my opinion, pound for pound, Mike York is one of the best all around players to ever play for MSU, but I don't think he had this kind of a first year.

The Comley crew is becoming more and more like the brian kelly blowers. More interested in a single person than the MSU program itself. I'm glad we've started so well, i hope we continue playing this well and make a frozen four in Detroit. But this is what our program SHOULD BE DOING!!! This was a top 5 job when Rick took over, we haven't won the CCHA since he took over and have been playing catchup to programs that we should never trail in Notre Dame and Miami-OH. Again i hope we keep it up and win a title and make a frozen four appearance, but there's a long way to go in the season and i'm not ready to hold a parade for the hockey team 8 games in.

I think, right about now, the Irish might make a swap even up, Jeff "Black Eye" Jackson for Rick Comley. Otherwise, yea, right, sure, blah, blah, . . . . talk to the hand loser.

Forget Jackson - rumor has it the Wings heard that Comley is 6-2 and are going to fire Babcock and bring him in.

I may be wrong, but I believe York is the only MSU player to lead the team in scoring his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years.

Don't be foolish bully, I heard the Montreal Canadiens have retroactively fired Toe Blake and hired Rick Comley. So you can thank Rick for the flying frenchmen.

Don't call me "Black Eye," son, or I'll ring your neck, even if I'm 4-3-1 with losses to UA-H, Providence, and BC (they aren't really Catholic, anyway).
