tOfficial "New SpartanTailgate.com Membership Levels" discussion thread
We took everyone's feedback, which was very appreciated, and these are the membership levels we came up with. We worked hard to come up with fair pricing for each level and believe we are offering an option for everyone. These will be going into effect later this week.
A few things of note:
- All current Varsity Members will still be grandfathered into the Varsity Member level.
- There is now a new intermediate membership level, Starter Level Membership, that has the same features that our previous "donor" level had. These funds will go to support this site.
- There is now a monthly payment option for the Varsity Membership Level.
- Currently you can only pay annually for Starter Level Membership.
- ESPN Insider access is included with each Varsity Membership purchased (or renewed) between now and 12/05/2009.
- A premium forum for chatting with our writers is in development, but the RCMB will remain the primary discussion forum on the site.
- We are also developing premium chats.
- We will be slowly ramping up the amount of home page news stories and Varsity Member features over the next several months, so please be patient. I can't begin to count the number of hours that I personally have put into this over the past several months.

I don't actually care, because I'm a poor ass college student, but what happens after December 5th?

Server costs have more than doubled in cost since we started the $25 level several years ago.

wait a second. I've been away for a period of time.
Why would the starter level, get you less than the varsity.
I mean if your a starter, your the creme de la creme of the varsity team.
It should be renamed to Junior Varsity. Or Women's field hockey member.
walk-on just makes sense.

We just likely won't be offering ESPN Insider after that date. It's a "pilot program" of sorts so we have to see how it works out first.

Well if you're a first year starter, you technically haven't earned your letter yet I suppose. It's all semantics at this point.

Only Starters and Varsity Members will be able to access the forums during the busiest server times.

Also keep in mind that current Varsity Members will be grandfathered into the new Varsity Membership level (which offers more than before.)

Makes sense. But I guess I thought the espn partnership was supposed to offset that.

Well I did say that they've more than doubled. As I've said in the past, if you get $2.95 worth of enjoyment out of the site per month, less than a cup of coffee, please at least consider becoming a Starter. If you are interested in all the other features we're working on providing for users, please consider becoming a Varsity Member for $4.95 a month (paid annually.) I can tell you that we work very hard on this site, and I would hope that each user would get at least that amount of enjoyment from the site each month. I understand that everyone's situation is different though.

Can you have a separate sunshine blower level since the spartyrockys of the board embrace mediocrity?

Seriously guys... if you are a Varsity Member now (which for the price, everyone should be), then you have a chance to try out the new Varsity level until your subscription runs up.
Then make a choice... This site has been the biggest bargain on the web for a long long time.

I guess this is where I note my disdain for "premium" forums - the one reason why I like this forum so much is because it never was over-populated with 10,000 forums for 5,000 different payment levels.
That said, if you're strictly moving just a couple of already-existing forums to the new super-duper premium option (Wells), I'd be fine with that. I just don't want to open this site one day and see 38 trillion forums for 45,000 payment combinations.
