The two campuses are about two miles apart, so I'm sure the LaMoyne kids were pumped, and the Syracuse kids thought it would be intramural basketball.

Teams should scrap these games.

and they probably shouldn't practice either...since someone could get injured doing that too....best if we just keep them locked in their rooms all week and bring tutors in so they can skip classes since they might trip and fall or have a tree fall on them or something...can't risk it.

Bologna.
That GVSU game haunted MSU for awhile that season. Yeah, meaningless in the final W-L column, but it was downright embarrassing to be beat on your own floor by an undersized Div II team full of white guys.

Yeah, that's what I said.
Exhibition games are dumb. There is no reason to ever play a D-II team. Too many risks, no reward.

Maybe this has already been discussed, but why was this the lead story on ESPN News?
Was MSU's when it lost to GVSU?

I was wondering this as well. Maybe there wasn't much of a TV production for the GVSU game.

And yet almost every single men's basketball team plays the maximum allowable two exhibition games or closed scrimmages against DII, DIII, or NAIA teams. Just like MSU is playing two DII teams this year, has in the past, and will in the future.
And I bet if you asked most coaches, they would like more exhibition games, maybe four or five total.
So you've clearly figured out something that everyone else is missing.

There is little risk. You get a chance to get into game flow and work out some kinks before actual games. if you lose, it might be a little embarassing but big deal. Would you rather suffer a loss vs GVSU or vs Florida Gulf Coast in the first game?

I was in Louisville last Wednesday and watched the Cardnals edge out little Georgetown College. Georgetown was ahead most of the game. Louisville played hard the whole game and turned thgame around in the last five minutes. A win by the small school makes their whole season.
