John Wall For National Player of the Year HAHAHAHHAHA

God I hate Kentucky, I hate their fans, I hate their school, I HATE their coach (how the heck is allowed to coach in the NCAA?) and everything their program stands for.

Listening to Katz podcast and the topic is National Player of the Year, the second or third name to roll off his tounge is John Wall. He has not even played a game and I can not stand the kid. I hope Kentucky gets bounced in first round of Tourny, he has average year, goes Pro and fails. IMO players have a idea when a coach is a shady character, so in a sense that makes them shady (spare me with the kid bs). Calipari recruits scumbags because that is what he is and that concludes my rant.

John Wall is really really good and is going to destroy in the SEC. He will almost definitely be in the National POY talks, as long as his teammate Patterson doesn't steal too much of the spotlight. But if you really hope Wall is going to be average you aren't going to like what you'll see. The kids spectacular:

All 1st Team All-Americans and in the Nat'l Player of the year discussion as freshman. Wall's got a lot of pre-season hype and it will be up to him to live up to it.

Yeah he's pretty crazy... And it's easier to understand how Kentucky jumps from NIT to ranked #3 in the country in a matter of one off-season.

Do the people who say John Wall shouldn't be a candidate not watch basketball or something. Plenty of studs have come in and been candidates, why is this a surprise?

C. Anthony
K.Durant
M Beasley
G. Oden (Look after he was mostly recovered from the wrist surgery)

John Wall is a stud.

yeah I abhor Kentucky as much as the next guy, but the second post in this thread nailed it. You don't need to like the guy, but you do need to accept that there is reason for his hype just as there was for a guy like Rose and countless others.

He will have a very good year, and then he'll go to the pros, and Kentucky will continue to cheat.

Separate the two. Just because Calipari is a scumbag and a cheater doesn't mean the kids don't have talent. Wall will be one of the most productive freshmen, and more likely than not, players in the entire country.

Another person that thinks the more ups a kid has the better he is. If anything impressed me about that video it was his blocks. If you think half those flashy passes and dunks are to happen in D1 basketball then you do not know basketball. It was 2 minutes in until I saw him hit a jumpshot. Sorry the globetrotter And1 mixtape stuff does not do it for me. I am not saying the kid is good, let him play half way through the SEC conference until you start slobbing him.

TIA

Edit 4 minute Video Clip and I saw 2 jumpshots, you think the kid is going to score 25 points a night dunking the ball and doing 360 layups, that is what is wrong with basketball today and you sir are what is wrong with the average fan today.

KY fans better hope they make the final 4 in 2010 (which will likely have to be vacated 2 or 3 years later for Calipari recruting violations) because there is a 99% chance Wall is playing in the NBA during the 2011 final 4.

Dwayne Wade couldn't hit a 15 footer for his first 3 years in the league and scored 20 a game. The guy is an excellent finisher and athlete, he is going to do well.

The SEC is garbage. He won't face too much great competition.

That video is crazy, although there is only really 2 outside shots. The rest are dunks, layups, crazy ball handling, big blocks.

It will be interesting to see how well he adjusts to college speed, college defense and such.

Ha. Remember when we played Memphis a couple years back?

Neitzel could hit a 3 almost anywhere. Rose could not but he was too busy jamming in Naymick's face.

Wall displayed a great ability to see the floor in those videos. He would dribble through 3 guys and either finish it himself or pass it to a teammate. I'd take that any day. He will be a special player.

Dude I never said he was going to score 25 a game. He's not going to do that. I said he's a spectacular player and will be in National POY discussions. And who cares about his jumpshot? At his position there are far more important skills that he does possess which will make him successful. His speed, first step, finishing ability, pin point passing, and court vision will make him a great PG immediately on the college level. Not to mention his defense where he blocks shots like crazy, not only against overmatched white kids in highlight films but also on the HS all-star circuit.

It's OK to hate Kentucky and their coach, but that doesn't mean Wall isn't deserving of they hype he has. I'd wait until you watch him play to label him "average," "overrated," and "not good;" just as I should wait to say he's a great college PG which he isn't yet.

What about his game makes you think that he is going to be a stud other than the fact he can dunk and throw flashy passes against a majority of high schoolers that will not be playing college basketball? Read a book on basketball buddy, the stars outside of big guys can

A) Shoot
B) Create to shoot aka fadeaways (Kobe)
C) Have the strenght to finish around the basket (Wade)

There is a reason why guys that do those moves you see on mixtapes are not in the league, its because they can not shoot.

Last I checked Wade did not win Player of the Year his junior year let alone his freshman year.

1995 — Joe Smith, Maryland
1996 — Marcus Camby, Massachusetts
1997 — Tim Duncan, Wake Forest
1998 — Antawn Jamison, North Carolina
1999 — Elton Brand, Duke
2000 — Kenyon Martin, Cincinnati
2001 — Shane Battier, Duke
2002 — Jason Williams, Duke
2003 — T. J. Ford, Texas
2004 — Jameer Nelson, Saint Joseph's
2005 — Andrew Bogut, Utah
2006 — J. J. Redick, Duke
2007 — Kevin Durant, Texas
2008 — Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina
2009 — Blake Griffin, Oklahoma

Post guys aside, I do not see any mixtape garbage player on there. You could make a case for Ford or Williams but they got to the rim in a different way and could shoot the ball when needed to. In 14 years 3 Point Guards have made that list, 1 Sophomore, 1 Junior? and 1 Senior.

Not saying the kid is not going to be good, but Player of the Year? No, going to have to show me more than a bunch of Vince Carter dunks to make me believe that. The Guy from ND will get it because the kid averaged like 23 points 12 boards 1 Blk and 1 Stl a game as a Junior.

I have 1st pick in a College BBall keeper league. I have Kalin (10th rounder), Delvon (6th rounder) and Ty Zeller (12th rounder) from last year. I am torn between Wall and Derrick Favors. He's pretty goddamn good.

Probably going Favors simply because of the rebounds & blocks

Do you know of a PG that doesn't have a great jump shot but seems to be pretty damn succesful using speed, passing, and finishing ability? I do:

John Wall would've been a top 5 pick in last year's NBA draft and is the leading candidate to be the first pick in this year's NBA draft.... Just saying.

Uhhhhhh all I seen him doing was him using all the white kid as pylons and dancing around and dunking? Was he playing Slamball?

North Carolina must not be a very big area, he's 6'4 and he looks like a monster compared to everyone he plays.

You profess to know basketball yet this is what you take form this video? It's a mix tape and shows only ESPN type highlights but this kid is so obviously a great athlete and has great skills. He is fast, strong, a great finisher and has terrific court sense. I don't know how good his outside shot is but I would guess if it's average now and he has the athleticism to become a very good shooter. You are not being fair with this kid.

Well, it looks like that because 90% of that video was a clip of a fast break with Wall doing some sweet move, dunk, no look pass, or whatever. The big guys weren't back. They most likely could have made a video of Wall pulling up jump shots because of big men closing the lanes but that would be boring.

Didn't Wall play for some great AAU team? From my understanding, he's not owning a bunch of random kids, he's owning top competition. He's an impressive player.
