Michigan State is not a program with two quality QBs, unfortunately.

When the circumstance presents itself, like the 2nd half today. Not in a tight game at Minnesota that you're fighting to get back into.

This is all the more reason why he shoulda looked stellar in the first half but didn't. It was all nice and dumbed-down for him, but he played like crap on the first series he took. He was better once the game was well in hand.

Folks, it was pretty obvious to me that Cousins could sling it when Hoyer got hurt against OSU last year and he came in and hit 11 in a row. I was really impressed with him.

As far as Nichol, give Nichols a break, I think more people on this board think they know more than Dantonio when it comes to his QB's. He needs some PT and we will need him if Cousins goes down.

will people stop with this crap??!?!? It's the most idiotic reasoning i've ever heard....NO ONE plays back ups just to get them experience in case of a future injury to a starter like D has with Nichol. NO ONE. Why? Because your starter gives you the best chance to win! The idea that D is putting Nichol in the second quarter after Cousins drove down for a td to give him experience in case Cousins gets hurt is just idiotic. It's patently clear that he is doing it for some other reason - and the only one that makes sense is that promises were made in the course of his transfer. But to say that he is doing it to give him reps in case Kirk gets hurt is not merely stupid, but suggests our coach is a moran too.

and suggesting Cousins' numbers were inflated because of the competition does very little for the pro-Nichol crowd considering Keith's numbers comparatively sucked.

but i forget that our team is so fragile and playing with fear of injury so we better give all the back ups a lot of PT in case a starter gets hurt...got to have them prepared! who cares if it costs us a couple of wins...we'll be prepared for injuries that probably won't happen in the future!

Exactly, should have been 24/25 except White can't catch a pass! I think the other incomplete was an intentional throw OB to avoid a sack. Not one mistake today. I don't care if its a scrimage COusins had a great day.

Stop it, your killing me. No where in my post did I mention playing Nichols in the second quarter for experience. I said he needs to play to gain experience in case Cousins goes down. Every coach does that when the opportunity presents itself. He may have promised Nichol playing time, it's entirely possible but we don't know what he said or didn't say. The bottom line is the kid has talent and Dantonio wants to reward the kid with some PT. Read before you vent.

I agree, that is why I am so mad that Greg Jones plays so much. What if he goes down? We need to develop talent behind him. I'd limit his playing time to half the downs.

While we're at it, why is Bates doing all the punting? We need to get the backup punter some reps in case Bates gets hurt. They should also probably swap out the entire offensive line unit a few times per half, just to get them experience in case the starters get hurt.

he's not a "co-starter". He is a starter.

I like what was done with Nichol. Put him in, Cousins kept getting hit late and if we're up big, he doesn't need to be in the game.
