Maxwell!!!!
You are right though that it was only against WMU, but 22/25 for that kind of yardage is impressive against anybody.

Those of you not at the game today have no idea how windy it was. To be as good as he was with that kind of wind was rediculous.

makes sense, put in a cooler to kill momentum in 100% of your games to prepare for the 20% chance you need a seasoned backup
I see your logic

You're right, we would've never beaten Illinois unless Nichol was in there for 5 plays against Wisconsin.

Beyond the fact that Nichol isn't very good, Cousins is an All-Big Ten type of player.
Keeping him on the bench is ridiculously stupid.

the logic here is so spurious it's laughable
you play your best player at every position. Cousins is CLEARLY the best QB...you don't play backups on the off chance the starter will get hurt in the future....that'sjlust idiotic reasoning.

How pretty was that pass to Martin for the TD? Loooong throw and hit him on the hands right in stride.

AS - this doesn't make a bit of sense. Back-ups get in for garbage time, for injury, or if the starter is rattled (for example, Hoyer versus OSU). Cousins is out there throwing bullets. He's an outstanding QB. Nichol has no business on the field.
Don't you get it? Putting Nichol in there, throwing off the offensive rhythm, is costing MSU games. Unless MSU is putting a 35 pt beat-down on someone, Nichol needs to park his keester on the bench.

I think that Kirk is finally fully comfortable out there. People forget that this is his first year as a Big 10 starter and with no running game to speak of, I think he's been remarkable. His accuracy really is outstanding and he hasn't had as many mental lapses as he did in the beginning part of the season.
I think the staff should play Nichol in goal-line situations, short yardage situations or "run out the clock" drives only. Keith can obviously run better and while his deep ball doesn't look that great, he can hit the short pass occasionally. Since the current offense seems incapable of converting a 3rd and 1 or anything five yards in from the goalline, put Nichol out there and let him improvise if need be (this all assuming of course that the staff feels they NEED to play Nichol every game).

I feel guilty doing this cuz I don't like badmouthing Spartans but Keith Nichol, once again, proved he has no business playing in the first half of a game in which Cousins is healthy. None! He was fine in garbage time but otherwise he needs to be off the field. I wish Fole was still in the fold.

Uh, Pabs... Nichol was not given his full package to work on today, otherwise he would have had some scheduled runs.
Go in, give Cousins a breather. Work on hand-offs (i.e. the end around with the option that he keeps it and runs the other way...) and slant passes. In time, this experience will begin to show.
If you thought that Nichol was given a full set of possible plays - rather than a set to work on - you are not a very observant football fan.
