I have 8 and the top 2. Still have a hard time with Julie Miller's voice, so I listen to the songs that Buddy sings.

Steve Earle and his son Justin Townes Earle made the top ten.

For those who hadn't heard of it (like me), No Depression is an alt-country/Americana magazine.

Well that explains why I have only heard of about 6 of those artists.

I guess that explains why Clutch isn't on the list and Steve Earle is.

I'm far from a country fan but I can't believe you've never heard of Kris Kristofferson, Roseanne Cash, Lyle Lovett, John Fogerty or Levon Helm.

If not, Kristofferson is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and a fine actor. Roseanne Cash is Johnny's daughter, Lyle Lovett is Lyle Lovett for goodness sakes, John Fogerty wrote and sang all of Creedence Clearwater's music and Levon Helm is from The Band.

Richmond Fontaine are great dudes and an awesome band. Bass Player, Dave Harding is a Spartan.

The singer, Willy Vlautin, is an author who is really great in a twisted, Pacific Northwest, Raymond Carver kind of way.

I passed over a few of those. Yes, I have heard of Johnny Cash, but not Roseanne. I've heard the name Kristofferson but never knew who he was, same for Lovett. Completely glossed over Fogerty. Never even heard of "The Band" let alone Levon Helm.

you don't say??

My problem with publications like this, much like some of the INDIE sources is they have little to no ability to branch out.

And I like several of the artists on that list. But to act as if it represents the best albums of the year is a joke when it hardly spans more than two genres.

My personal 3 favorite albums from this year:

3. Grizzly Bear - Vekatimist
2. Phish - Joy
1. Decemberists - Hazards of Love

Admitingly there are a ton that I haven't heard though. Would like to start with the Passion Pit album.

Man I saw this guy over the summer on pure chance. Was blown away and laughing at all his hilarious stories and great songs. Do you know of any albums for someone looking to get more into him?
