To be honest- if I'm texting someone it's because I'm looking at other scores in the country going on. I want to know if Kentucky gets upset, and I want to know how badly wiscy is doing against minny. I don't do this when the team is playing- ONLY during TV TIMEOUTS. Of course, every now and then my inbox gets jammed because people see me on tv and go "OMG dude ur on da tv".

The 70 year olds in Lexington and Bloomington are louder, more energetic and more passionate about the game than 95% of the chumps in the Izzone.

If you replaced the green-seaters with blow-up dolls you would never know the difference. Our crowd is the same as it is in football - reactive. They only get into it when the team does something to spark them. Otherwise, they sit on their hands and bitch.

No use in denying it. It's clear as day to everyone.

Now let's play the blame game. Everybody wants to know, what does Mikey V think, woah, woah, Mike must be real upset. Yeah, no, re- no really? I'm absolutely furious. It's a fifty-fifty split on blame. Fifty percent of it goes to my crew, the Izzone. Now I love the Izzone. But I got bad news for you: I can't defend you when you cheer that way. And as bad of a job as that those green seaters did, putting you in bad spots, you have to make better cheers. You gotta make noise. You wanna be an all-Big Ten arena, you wanna be the big shot, you wanna be an All-American student section, Izzone I can't help you. You can't have the last three stretches of any game be on you with three rows of texters. You can't. You can't text your friends, you can't sit down, and you can't for the DJ or band to clue you in. You just can't do it. As much as I defend the Izzone, not today. I can't make that case, the Izzone's cheered very poorly. First haf of the season, they lit it up. Second half, I thought the green seaters did an absolutely disgraceful job of getting the Izzone in rhythm and allowing them to make plays. But late in that year, the Izzone had the opportunity to simply get loud and keep that place rocking; they didn't do it. They made bad chants, they made bad decisions, and ultimately, had a big hand in them losing this crowd rep. That's on the Izzone.

...

"The Michigan State crowd is pounding teams, and they took their foot off the accelerator. They mismanaged the noise - again! They didn't use their cheers right - again! And they allowed an opponent to get into halftime and make adjustments - again! It's the same tired-ass story. Note to green seaters: learn the effing concept and understand that your decibels are not like cell phone minutes - they don't carry over!"

...

"Sick of this! I'm sick of dealing with this. These kids fought their asses off. And yes they texted, yes they sat down, but the green seaters weren't there to put em in good spots. Second half, up by single digits, in the middle of Big Ten season, old folks sitting on their hands. And they come back late, you gotta yell to win, and you don't put your most imp- im- important cheers in the game. Here's another idea - why wasn't the crowd ready at the end of the game? God forbid if they'd tripped over themselves and forced a shot clock violation, they wouldn't even have gotten a 'let's go State' off! The unit wasn't even ready!"

well played

ok here is my 2 cents. As an Izzone member and part of the group that works on the scouting report, too easy sign, and are there for every game no matter what: The Izzone has been a little weak this season as a hole. Tuesday needs to be our coming out party. We need to be loud from the minute the doors open until the last Spartan leaves the floor. We need to get on Krammer and his flops. Hummel and his broken back and Painter for being a whinny snake. The Izzone is one of the top student sections in the country and we need to start acting like it.

As far as the Green seaters. Stand up. I dont give a rats a** if you get yelled at. I was a the game saturday and Assembly Hall is mostly green seaters who brought it the entire game. They put ours to shame and yall should be ashamed of that.

It's our jobs as fans to support our team through thick and thin. When better to show how much we love our boys then by being absolutely nuts on the ESPN Super Tuesday Primetime versus #5 Purdue with the Big Ten title on the line. We need to show up and help our boys get the W.

I would be really concerned for the sake of our team if that thought occured to anyone on the bench.

If so, they outta be fired/cut from the team immediately.

No worries. People whined about the Izzone last year, but they carried the win against Illinois. And let's not forget that the Spartans have not lost at home this year. Funny how after a couple road losses we hear whining about the student section.

Mostly though, I'd point out there haven't been any big games in the Breslin since Gonzaga and, would you look at that, that was the last game the Izzone was in true form.

I'm an alumni now too, I just graduated in December. I spend the cash to come into the Izzone and have fun, but our fan base is absolutely PATHETIC.

The sad thing is that even after the Izzone chanting "stand up" for the entire timeout, there were still people sitting down. Anyone sitting in the Green Seats should be ashamed. Yeah, its Iowa, yeah its a ****ing Wednesday night, yeah, we're students and we're crazy, but the most pathetic showing in Breslin last night was not the team letting Iowa back in the game, it was the fans for not giving the team the energy to step on their throats.

I got interviewed by BTN last night, about the whole Oar/Rowing thing. I said that hopefully, we can reach that 53 home game win streak that we had in the 99-01 seasons sometime soon. Unless our ****ing fans decide to stand up and get loud ON THEIR OWN once in a while, it will NEVER happen.

STAND UP *clap clap*
STAND UP *clap clap*
STAND UP *clap clap*
I posted this after the Iowa game. Just saying.

I'll be at the game tomorrow. I'll be doing some copious amounts of copying/printing before the game though. Something to hand out to some Izzoners/green seaters, maybe?

"There is no question that Michigan State had the toughest place to play for a lot of years," Izzo said. "And there is no question that it is not at that level right now. But our team hasn't been at that level either the last two games. I've got my own job to do, but I always urge and say that we don't just win games because of our team. Illinois does beat us on a neutral site playing the same way that we played, if you ask me. And Wisconsin, there wasn't an empty seat in the house and they were there early. They had a big part in the win. I do think that there has been some complacency the last two or three years.

From my perspective, The Wisky and Illini student sections are (way) ahead of the Izzone regarding creativity, noise and unified chants.

I remember when the Izzone was waiting for Arizona at the bus and they brutalized the team until the UA stepped back on and left town. They were relentless. Now the Izzone is too busy texting and more interested in playing Halloween than to FUBAR the other team's psyche.

I watched the Wisky game on TV, and from that perspective you are looking at mostly non-students sitting on their butts from the primary camera angle. Students appeared to be behind the hoops. And to be honest, U-M was louder on TV than Wisky was, although I don't know how that played out in person.

I thought the general consensus on the board was "we don't care about the regular season, only the NCAA tourney matters"? Isn't that the arguement that was being used with Wisky fans? If that's still the case, who cares what the Izzone does?

Have you ever watched a game at either of those places when they weren't playing a top 5 team in the country? When Wisconsin hosted Penn State, that place sounded like they were playing in an empty gym for 90% of the game. If you watch any illinois game, (including ours) take a close look at the students in the chairs along the sideline under the camera...about half of them will be sitting during the game.

You obviously have not watched much basketball at Wisky and Illinois outside when we played them.

Illinois student tickets are set up differently than almost any other school I have seen. Unlike most schools, where students are put together in the same section, students at Illinois can choose to either be in orange Krush (by pledging a large amount of money to charity), or to get normal student season tickets. Normal season tickets (which I got as a student), are spread out almost randomly around assembly hall. I think this may help get the rest of the crowd going at times (but I sometimes wish all students were stuck together no matter what).

In regards to the Krush sitting on the floor: the administration and assembly hall staff force them to sit in the middle of every game so that the old people and high doners in the section behind them can see. It’s not like the students are choosing to sit, they are forced to.

I was at the Breslin center a few weeks ago for the IL game. I thought the Izzone was great, and the rest of the fans were okay too – I guess Illinois isn’t the marquee game that it used to be.

The players notice when the fans are boring...It's well known that MSU has an above average student fan section and one of the worst group of non-student fans when it comes to vocally and visually supporting the team.

This is college basketball. Fan support can influence the game at this level.
