Eh, they got very specific orders on when and when not to play, and the board's gone on at length about what they are and are not allowed to play.

Or how about "You're a ****in' ****!" (Rhymes with Bunt) every time a ref calls a foul against one of our guys. (5 straight 8ts)

Can a crowd receive a Technical Foul for the home team? And has this happened anywhere recently? (WVU?)

Exactly, which is why I emailed the guy. It wasn't a get rid of the band, it was get the higher-ups to stop telling the band to play during the crazy moments

Total buzz kills after big plays when the crowd is going nuts. College football and bands go together, but college basketball is awesome all on its own... no need for you guys to try to be the center of attention at all moments. Oh btw, the only thing you ever play at basketball games that even remotely gets the crowd pumped is the "You Suck" thing. Whoever mandated that that shouldn't be played anymore sucks balls. Other arenas chant obscenities all game ( WVU, I'm looking at you) and we never really do that during basketball, yet we get "punished" for saying "you suck." Really? That's about as mild as it gets for "insults," and it actually gets the crowd excited.
.

I've never been in Brass, so that's up for debate...but you do realize WVU's students just got publicly obliterated by ESPN, and their own AD and coach for yelling obscenities and throwing crap, right?

I'm not saying we should be like WVU (not at all!). I'm saying that "You Suck" isn't really offensive, and it's especially not offensive when compared to what other schools do.
"You Suck" gets the crowd pumped, is the only good thing the band does at basketball games, and should definitely come back.

You've gotten your wish. The band doesn't play as much this year, particularly on visitor's timeouts. And what that means is the spot where the "Hey, You Suck!" cheer would normally go has now been replaced by not the band playing the fight song or something else related to the school and that which is on the court, but by the DJ, playing "Cupid Shuffle" or whatever.

We have the most apathetic fanbase in the country. The Greenseaters are still the big problem, but with the SAF saving seats for their friends and allowing non-drunk/fans that just want to be seen into the Izzone the problem has extended to the students as well. I've had the privelege to be in the Izzone quite a few times, and each time I couldn't even imaging not going absolutely ape**** for the entire game. There is no point to being at a game if you aren't going to be involved. The administration needs to do something to the greenseaters to show them that it is a priveledge to be at an MSU game, and not their right. Unfortunately with the seat licensing crap I don't know what they could actually do about it. The old blue hairs think that just because they pay a ton of extra money it means they get to sit down there and drink their diet coke, eat their pretzel and bitch when something goes wrong. They don't stand up for the fight song. The loudest they get is when the moronic shoe shuffle is on the screen. Tomorrow night we need to have Izzoners going up and down the aisles berating anyone not standing up, and threatening them with the new logo if they don't.

In theory this sounds like a good idea, but I can tell you this is not always the case. There have been some games where I have commitments beforehand that I absolutely CANNOT skip, and so I have friends save me a seat (I still get to the game 30 minutes early usually). You KNOW I bring it as hard and obnoxiously as anybody else out there.
Conversely, there were some chicks that got to the game a little earlier than us for the two games before the Northwestern game, and so they sat in the front row while we sat in the second. They then proceeded to call us "annoying" and told us to shut up because we were yelling too much. Early does not always equal diehard. In fact, it usually just equals "I want to get on TV."

Me too. I do the occasional check of other games at TV timeouts too. But no way would I be caught dead texting during game play.

only been to one game this year, and yes i sat in the green seats. i did notice that we were using a DJ a lot more than in the past. i didn't like it, too much like a pro arena. some higher-up made a bad decision.
btw, y'all do know that people can yell while sitting? students are students no matter when. when i was an undergrad i used to bitch about alums. you all bitch about alums. in 20 years, students will bitch about you.
the folly of youth, or the cycle of life, take your pick

The dance team, camera girls, and BTN media reps with the miniskirts don't count, and yes, they ALL think that about you.
As for the broader issue, there'd be a slew of problems with it, but in general I think peoples' desire to watch good basketball and annoy the crap out of coaches outweighs other peoples' desire to text live on ESPN.

This makes me so happy, because I know that I am hard to tune out. If everybody on our side hates me, then the opposing team has to feel the same way.
