Between these two, which do you prefer?

If you like to go fast......buy the SHO.
If you prefer luxury.....buy the Buick.
They both look really cool.

You should just wait for the Car & Driver comparison test that picks two Japp cars over both of them

Well, Motor Trend already did a LaCrosse CXS vs Lexus ES 350 comparo............and the Buick WON!!
Quote:
1ST PLACE: BUICK LACROSSE CXS
Roomy and well equipped, with great presence and pleasant road manners, it redefines the Buick brand for the 21st century.
2ND PLACE: LEXUS ES 350
Still defines the segment, but it's starting to feel old and cramped, and, despite the premium price tag, Toyota's cost-cutting is noticeable in places.

Car & Driver has pissed me off a long time. I cancelled my subscription over 10 years ago after seeing them repeatedly skew performance barcharts to make it look like the Japp's won by a lot or domestics won by very little. And then they went into whining about subjective stuff like 'the dashboard looks cheap' and 'the door handles don't feel right'. No surprise that idiot magazine started in Ann Arbor.

Why would you compare a performance model to a model that may not even be fully optioned out? Now if they made a Lacrosse GS, you might be onto something there.

i get it as a gift. i think i'm going to suggest after the current subscription runs out to cancel and get something useful like the Limbaugh Letter.

Haven't driven the SHO yet, but I can tell you the LaCrosse is very nice. Only thing I didn't like about the LaCrosse was the size of the trunk. Too small. Not sure I could fit 2 sets of golf clubs. Otherwise, very smooth ride.

Can't miss with either. Honestly, I think the Buick looks nicer. But I still have some trouble getting past the Buick stigma of an old-man's car. Still have memories of those gi-gundous Buick Roadmasters.

I have seen a few SHO's and they all have made me look twice, one was in a parking lot and I had to go check it out, so they passed that test.
SHO for me, I had a buddy that had a Ford 500 and I think they advertised that for carrying 8 bags or so, If the trunk is the same in the SHO, You can carry 2 bags for each occupant,

Actually, the CXS is the tuned up trim of the LaCrosse.

Definitely the SHO. Most features are pretty much debatable until you get to the EcoBoost engine in the SHO (which BTW stands for Super High Output). The EcoBoost is a gamechanger. You get more power and more fuel efficiency with that engine than in almost all other comparable models in that class.

would have to drive them both. My Buick and Ford perceptions are swaying me and I dont think they apply to these latest cars.

If I am not mistaken, I believe those wagons in the early 90's had the corvette engine in them.

I'd say that's a fair assessment. The Buick CXS price starts around 33K where the SHO is around 37K. Interesting that Ford did not go RWD on the SHO. Prefer RWD performance but I'm sure it's more platform oriented to save costs. The 6spd FWD transmission is basically the same transmission in both vehicles. GM began the design and Ford approached for and "in kind" venture agreement. Design is identical for both.

CSX is the AWD version; most notable.

The Buick looks like a Lexus. The Ford looks like an Audi. They're okay, but not particularly inspired. Why wouldn't someone just buy a year-old Pontiac G8? You'd get a pass on the depreciation AND get RWD with a V8.

Actually, the GS is always the sport-tuned version of a Buick (unless we're talking about 2nd gen Regals). There is no LaCrosse GS. The poster was speculating "what if".

I will offer an alternative. It appears these are $35-$40k cars.
Go buy a certified 5-series BMW. Awesome car and the residual in 3-4 more years will be much higher.
